The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Maybe Scott feared that if he didn't do a prequel, Paul WS Anderson would have directed/produced one that established that the space jockey was a Predator.

Haha..

Well, that really hit my good side. Personally this is brilliant. I can't wait. I've never cared much for the space jockey and i've never really cared about how it got there. My imagination with the space jockey story line is very bold.

But, it will be intresting for the story to unfold it's self. But why another FEMALE character? Infact any human. Please, no offence to any females on the board.

Ether way, good review, bad review...... I'm still going to attend this as a fan of the sequels.

Cheers

Callum

With the technology we have now, and what will pop up in the next couple of years, this future gem from Mr. Scott will kick ass. I still remember the effect Alien had on me when it first came out and I got to see it in the Drive-in theater. The image of the Space Jockey was permanently burned into my brain. Who better than the godfather himself! I'm relieved to hear he's going to collaborate with Giger again. Can't wait to see the list of cast and crew (oh ya... and some DETAILED HD photos of props and costumes PLEEEASE!!!! )

Soooo pleased Ridley Scott will be at the helm on this one, I had lost faith in the latest films (AvP movies) and only Scott or James Cameron could put them back on track IMO.

It's a Ridley Scott film.

As much as I loved Alien...Aliens is the "universe" for me now. Probably because I really prefer action over suspense. I do realize I will never see another opus like Aliens (pure action/suspense/amazing acting etc etc) and I am very curious about this prequel.

Having said that... just like I was disappointed that they didn't continue the storyline forward in the Starwars movies, I am equally disappointed that they didn't continue the story after Alien3 (Alien Resurrection does NOT exist to me). I do not need Ripley to be in it but the comic series that took place later on are fascinating with earth being taken over.

I just don't know how to feel about this sequel.

Well this actually sounds promising to me.

But I've been so burned by the string of garbage Hollywood has churned out lately, that I'll not be getting my hopes up. :(

Scott at the helm helps though. At least he agrees on where the franchise has gone.

NO LONGER INTERESTED

"Scott says that he'll likely have to redesign the creatures "I think, therefore, I have to design - or redesign - earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in "Alien," which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out."

If anything, the design of the creature needs to return to that in the first film. The Alien design has evolved so far from Giger's original look, that returning to that biomechanical beastie would be fresh.

it would most definately have to go back to gigers original concept or maybe some slightly earlier version?

I spoke with Roger Christian yesterday (set designer for Alien as well as Star Wars) and he informed me he's spoken with Ridley Scott and should be working on the prequel as well.....so I'm even more psyched now :)

Double yer pleasure!!!

I wonder if, when Ridley says 'he' will redesign the Alien, he means he will be approaching HRG to do it?

This.

As much as I love the alien serious, They went further and further towards a kind of insecty style, imo. Hell, the alien 3 alien [which came out of, depending on your chosen version, a cow/dog.] was kinda ugly, Alien and Aliens are least had nice looking aliens.

After that of course they all went CGI, which bugged me.

Yeah the Xenos have been reinterpreted so many times that they have lost that "edge" from the first film. They still retained some of that "unworldly bizarreness" in Aliens- particularly the "crawling through the ceiling" shot, and when the Xeno is chasing Vas through the airduct on all fours. It wasn't... familiar, it was- well "alien".

But the Xenos have bit by bit gone from biomechanical to fluidic or organic. Even insects do not move as seemlessly as the aliens in AvP did (haven't subjected myself to AvP:R and never will).

I'd like to see a return to that quirkyness- something that I think only a (tall) man is a suit can truly reproduce.

The acid-blood sleek-skinned aliens dreamed up by H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott are among the most memorable creature designs in movie history. But Scott says they're "worn out" thanks to endless sequels, and they won't be in his new prequels.

In an interview with Screen Daily, the director revealed that he has plans to redesign the aliens, and show how they became the majestic killing machines we know and love.

He also explains a bit more about the storyline of his two prequels:

The film will be really tough, really nasty. It's the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would actually go in and clean up a planet? It will take place in the years before that, when they first come across this thing on a planet called Zeta Reticuli.

Yeah, the thing about Alien vs Predator is, I know it's commerce, but what a pity... I think, therefore, I have to design - or redesign - earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out."

So what do you think these new aliens will look like? And what could these "gods and engineers" who designed the ultimate biological weapon have been like?

I love all this stuff coming out.
It's just going to be awesome. How could it be anything other than AWESOME?!!

Ridley Scott making more Alien films is one of those fantasy pub conversations you have with not a thought for it actually happening. It's given us something to really look forward to that I honestly wouldn't have hoped for in my wildest geeky dreams. Buy that man a friggin' Cee-gar!
