In fact, can I say that I never want to see another archaeological dig in another movie ever? AvP ruined Jurassic Park (*BUY A JEEP TONY*) for me.
Agreed - and while we're at it, I recommend Woody face a court martial or at the very least be put on latrine polishing duty (avec tongue) if he makes/mentions any more Jar Jar Binks impressions/quotes/references!
On a more serious note...
I've just finished reading the 'Shadow 19' script by Jon Spaihts. It's pretty good even though it's a first draft. Kind of a gnarly Avatar (many similarities: marines, mech suits, colonisation, amazing weaponry, fearsome alien creatures). There's some awesome action; some nice originality; interesting twists and a genuine 'WOW' moment at the end of the first act. There's some fantastic combat stuff in there as well - and plenty of it.
It doesn't have the same cross over appeal as Avatar I'd say but it pushes all the right buttons for the sci-fi crowd.
In this script, Prometheus is a space ship-cum terraforming machine that's sent to a distant world with the intention of gouging out a new home for mankind. As mentioned, I've only read the first draft so I'm sure Spaihts would have made a few changes. But this is definitely a movie I would liked to have seen. Even if Sir Ridles had put this version of the script on screen I would be very excited about it. So if what they've got is a big improvement (which we would assume it must be), then we should be in for something really cool.
It'll be interesting to see just how much of Jon Spaihts story ends up in the final 'Prometheus' script, which has been taken further by egg-headed 'Lost' scribe Damon Lindelof. My guess is probably not that much, if any of the current rumours are true.
Either way, with the talents of Spaihts, Lindelof, Scott, Giger and the acting talent announced the prospects couldn't be brighter.
