The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi, id just like to say thanks to everyone arround here, I had to make some aliens costumes for an LRP game this weekend, and fron using the reasearch i found here i have managed it just about, 7 of the below aliens from scratch in 2 months for under £500

thatks a lot, id love some feedback, the pics arnt of the finished costume, i still need to airbrush it up and detail etc, and the latex is still wet so it looks patchy, it should look much more subtle and silvery when its dry

thanks
mark/ wookie

That's pretty impressive for a 2 month scratch build...
I particularly like the chest and arms..:D

Im sure some of our resident bugs will stick their long heads in pretty soon.

Man, great work for so little time. Be nice to see what you could do with a little more breathing room.

HI again all, im here for some more help, we are running a sequal to the event we ran before, so im mounting the aliens on lycra and they look much better, adding some extra sculpted sections to fill in some gaps.

What i am realy after this is some idea if anyone here has seen or herad of anyone making an Alien Queen

the idea i have is based on the walking with dinosaurs live show, but much simpler

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=742586&l=8322129e44&id=517617218
black = structural members, im thinking plastic pipes
red = foam/ fabric shell
green = operator

is the concept sketch, has anyone seen anything simalar, or another way of doing it etc tec

thanks

wookie

I figured id start a little blog type thing here with how im getting on with the alien queen, we just started actuall building at the weekend so here we go

Image

thats what im using as the basis for the design, i have one of the toys im bidding on on ebay so i can use it as a maquette for the skining elements

and

Image

is the start of the framework for the skelatal structure

size wise the top of the crest is about 3m high and it should be about 5 m long, it should also be able to rear up to about 5 m tall

as it rears up the head looks down and as it lowers down the head starts to look forward

also here is a pic of our newly revised aliens

The aliens are getting there, not a patch on what a lot of the ones ive seen here are, but i will hopefully have 15 of them in a few months, i should realy work out a better head, but its just so much work for waht isnt that big a return for what we use them for. the queen however should be huge and awesome, i will try and get the legs on it at the weekend and do a walking test, will probably not get there, but its worth setting goals

Wow, very nice! I'm getting that BREWSTER McCLOUD feeling seeing the framework. (If that's an unfamiliar reference...It's an old Robert Altman film where Bud Cort's character, Brewster had a fantastic winged framework strapped on for short flights. I hope those ALIEN gloves have some Lee Press-On Nails in their future.
Thanks for letting us peek into your studio work space...Love seeing the process.

FANTASTIC! Lookin' good. Thanks for the update...almost as good as a time-lapse video.
I hope you have smooth sailing with the poultry mesh/cling film/Gaffer's tape phase.
