The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Was looking for it, but couldn't find an answer. Did Weyland Yutani sort of build most if not all of the vehicles in Aliens ? Mostly curious about the APC, so if anyone knows if this was ever discussed in (extended) canon, please chime in.

Cheerioh,

Oh, go on... Stick the logo on it somewhere :p
So long as it doesn't contradict any shots from the film, your canon is just as valid as any other EU stuff ;)

Okay- since there is a bit of precidence in the EU of ARMAT developing the M41A PRs- I think it can be extrapolated that WY does not develope military equipment. At least "I'd" like to believe so.

Personally I'd like to see another "fictional" company (such as MatsuCorp  ) with the defence contract for APCs or Dropships.

But that's just me and my hatred for WY.

I know Omni Consumor Products also made military equipment.

;)

Does it say anything about the manufacturer in the tech manual?

There are several fictional defence manufacturers mentioned for weapons such as Republic Electric (most likely a play on General Electric).

Others mentioned: Boyars (phased plasma cannon),
Republic Dynamics (free-electron lasers),
Martin-Continental (partical beam cannon),
and Arco Continental (gas turbine engine).

Now where did you get that idea ?

For some reason i remember reading somewhere that ships like the Sulaco were build by WY, but that might have been before i woke up. I guess this really is a case of "i want to believe", and make up any story to justify slapping a logo on it somewhere.. hehe..

The EEV does have a WY logo on it - at least the 'black box' does (in Alien3).

Not in the slightest. We sincerely value the life of every Colonial Marine out there on our colonies.
However, space is a dangerous place to work with certain known hazards. It is part of the job spec that misfortunes may occur. Every Marine knows this when they sign on.

This is so... nuts. I mean, just listen to what you're saying here - it's paranoid delusion.
It's really sad....

It's pathetic!!

Well, as in the WY beer, I daresay things are often branded WY because they own/bought the original production company. Kinda like that Bugatti Veyron being made by Volkswagen, or something.

So in effect, WY could simply be plastered on anything.

And the crew of the Nostromo?

And so to stay on topic-

The EEV was built by WY?... No wonder it crashed.

And killed 3/4 of its occupants.

Not that I'm doubting Mike in any way shape or form, but could someone get a screengrab of that logo in A3?

i think WY are contracted for various things in the alien universe and the eev could just be a generic model used by alot more than the military

Didn't Ash order them to? Or enable it to happen? Been a while since I've seen the film.

And having WY components in an item (like the lifeboat) doesn't mean THEY built it.
It's like saying Microsoft built computers because the run on Windows. ;)

Yes- Ash was the one who single handedly broke protocol. And as we all know he was clandestinely working for the Company the entire time.

So the crew of the Nostromo didn't "get what they deserved."

Unfortunately WY did build the lifeboat:

This is from the A3 extras- something I've had on my HD for a while (and had forgotten about).

Thanks Mike!

Interesting that it is the same WY logo as seen in the prison. Makes me wonder if there were any instances of the WY logo design from Aliens- in any movie other than Aliens.

Not likely.

IMHO the makers of Alien³ had so little respect for continuity that they didn't care about changing the WY logo, the design of the hypersleep pods, the sound of the pulse-rifles, Ripley's 'rank'... it goes on. They seemed obsessed with making everything Japanese for some reason, right down to the Coke machine on Fury 161. And all of this supposedly happened between the end of Aliens and the beginning of Alien³. Ho hum.

Ah, now Ash was an older model, you see... very twitchy, those old A2s, ya know ;)
However, Dallas still ordered it

I think it makes even more sense to have WY logos everywhere.
They want to be the foremost controlling corporation in colonisation. What better way to do that than get their fingers in as many pies as possible, by owning the companies that make the colonisation equipment?

From beers, to airlocks, to underwear.
Kinda like how Mars and Coke own loads of companies.

I know the game is not considered canon, but karl Wayland in AVP 2010 says that his company manufactures the USCM weapons. He then turns over the barrel of the hero's sidearm and it has the WY logo stamped on the barrel slide.
