The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi, could anyone supply me with some measurements for the Beyerdynamic M560. I need the overall length plus the diameter of the rear, middle and mic piece. Going to try and make one up so any close up pics etc would be great.

My helmet will be a painted version but with a helmet band. Is it the standard 'cats eyes' us helmet band or something different?

Here is a quick in progress shot, thanks in advance.

J

According to the engineer next door with the fancy measuring devices:

Mic end is 53mm.
Back end is 38.5mm.
Centre section is 183mm.

Overall length is 274.5mm.

Helmet band is similar to the 'cats eye' one, but the plain Vietnam version, I believe.

Just a little thing, but you may want to angle the camera down at the front, or when you are wearing the helmet the camera will be pointing in the air a bit.

Have a look here on Harry's site -
http://www.harryharris.com/helmet3.htm

Might want to check if it is far enough forward on the helmet too or it points off to the side a bit, hence the piece cut out of the side of the front plate in above pic.

Just thought that as it was still a work in progress now would possibly be a good time to try and move it, even for a display piece.

Yes, I've seen them in all sorts of positions too, but I suppose the main thing about the positioning of the camera, is that it should look to be viewing what the actual wearer is seeing.
Not up in the air to the right.

Buy all means, move it to make it SA. But it hardly matters really. Mine is positioned wrong, still looks great and also records everything.

But it's upto you matey!!

Just make sure you get the lobster plates right!!!

Cheers

Callum

'make sure you get the lobster plates right'. By this do you mean one on top of the other, no gaps?

I was pleasently supprised at how easy it was to cut a real steel. New hacksaw blade and my trusty Dremmel and were all sorted.
