Just came across this on the Propstore website

http://www.propstore.com/product-USS-Co ... isplay.htm

Quite a high price for one without an earpiece and mic! I wonder if it's screen used?

For that price it had better be!

However if it is- I doubt it is nothing more than a background or stunt helmet. It lacks the IR sight and the little battery pack (found on the lobster plate).

Can this be moved to the Ready Line?

"Comprised of"???
'Composed of', or 'comprises'...... Just thought I'd get that in before PVB

Looks like someone's purposely scrubbed off the name from the back.... Perhaps it said something like 'Stunt'?

Can anyone match the camo pattern, which is pretty distinctive, to a screen used one?

Not Apone, not Hudson, not Hicks.
Not Tip Tippings(crowe?)
Not Dietrich
Not Wierzbowski

Does this help us definitively prove some of the colors used and the wash that is over the colors?

I believe there were at least 2 sets of armor made per character. Screen Used (SU) that helmet is. May be not On Screen. But that should be a SU prop. I can see the waffle padding.

No IR sight either, but what i have noticed is that the swivel bail has been re-welded on the ear peice cutaway. Most screen used i have seen have the strap on the ear peice. Interesting.

More than likely this was a possible stunt helmet. And there were multiple copies of armour made but i am unsure about helmets.

Surely and hopefully Ste from Propstore does not buy fake stuff. I'll e-mail him see if he has further info.

Only if Terry could help us, but i think after 20 years he would not know.

Cheers

I saw this on my iPhone at work and thought it looked familiar - turns out I used to own it back in the day. :)

I'll post more soon, including some photos I took of it while it was in my possession. Right now it's time for bed; did a 17½ hour shift at work today... Zzzzz! ;)

If it's not seen on screen, then it's not screen-used. o_O Production made or Production used, sure. Not definitively screen used.

Harry, is it a prototype helmet? :)

I don't think so as I'd expect a prototype to differ in some way to the final piece; this is identical to the screen-used, final production made helmets.

One thing I will say by the way is that when I bought it back in 1992 it had no camera lens or earpiece-flap, those have been added since then.

It is a beautiful helmet regardless, but for that cash I would buy a whole suit from Terry .....

I don't want to think about it to be honest!

I bought the helmet, plus a similar one and Ferro & Spunkmeyer's flying suits for £140.00!! I think I sold the helmets for a few hundred pounds each a few years later. Kinda wish I'd held on to them now LOL! :)

Harry , this is somewhat related to the thread, do you know or think Terry English did the entire helmet???
Or did he just do the metal work and then the helmets were shipped over or given to a special effect/prop department to be fitted with mics, eyepieces etc. and paintjob??

Oh and buy me a few shares in Microshite while you're at it, eh!!

I'll reimburse you the 85 cents when you get back ;)

Terry would have just made and fitted the aluminium parts to the helmet along with the webbing for the rear plates. I'm pretty sure he sourced and installed the ear defenders as they need to be riveted to the ear-flap plate (the piece with the slots in it) but he didn't make the mic booms or helmet cameras - they would have been made by Terry Reed in the props department.

Made?
Mic booms were directly taken from a Beyerdynamic DT-159, weren't they?
Or am I just being a pedantic tit? :)
