The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I've seen several mail/lorry pallets that are close, but has the famous "Sci-Fi" floor pallet seen in the films, as well as Star Wars ever been properly identified?

You wouldn't believe how long I've searched for these, but no luck so far. As you said there are very similar versions out there but I've never found the correct one. :(

closest one I could find:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4430

Looks like the real ones wouldn't be that good structurally, I'm guessing discontinued as well.

Still look in the warehouse though from time-to-time.

Sulaco floor tiles are another one too...

Funny I see this topic come up. About 10 years ago I would randomly do searches
on ebay for "Aliens Prop" or "Aliens Signed"
and there would be several listings for those floor pieces. You could buy em
for about 40-80 dollars apiece. If you were to find one now you'd probably
pay an arm, or leg, for one.....

I forget which one it was/is but a Pulse Rifle kit came with a mounting that was the colony floor tile.

I'm 99% sure it was a repro and not sure of the accuracy....but its an option.

I remember that one - they cut the corners at a diagonal, right?

No, that looked a bit thrown-together to me. Not really a replica at all, just an 'impression'.

Can't find any photos of it... razzmtazzm... :?

Well you knew I had to chime in here.

I obviously am happy with the pattern, vs real tiles. Be careful what you wish for, if you find one you will want another, and...

We're going a little O.T. here.

Just to clarify we're talking about the large rectangular ones used principally in the Colony sets, not the smaller square ones used in the Sulaco Dropship bay etc.

I think this is going to be hard one to track down... having worked in warehouses, factories .. etc.. you notice that every few years suppliers change the design of pallets etc... I have seen several companies that sell pallets that are close.. who knows there could be a warehouse somewhere stacked out with the right pallets.. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if there was still a stockpile at Pinewood. They were also used in Outland, Saturn 3...

They pallets were used on the cat carrier too. The under color is reddish orange before they were painted.

I would love some to make the carrier at some point.

So would he!

Harry, I can ask my friend Jeremy to keep an eye out for those pallets, next time he pops into Pinewood, maybe ask one or two questions!

Didn't ICONS make an "acid burned" display rack for their Pulse Rifle (based on the Colony tile)?

I've been killing myself for the last hour trying to find the one and only ICONS ad I remember in an old Starlog magazine- haven't found it yet and it's driving me crazy!

To me they look like old drainage grates used in construction sites. But of course designs always change.

That's the side gutter Matt Noble posted about above and it is a drainage channel. :)

They're pallets, as described in the Propstore link above, being brightly coloured plastic just painted to look like metal for the films. :)

If you look closely at this picture you'll notice that there are at least two diffend styles of cargo pallets used as the colony floor:
- the ones on the main hallway with all slots running in the same direction
- the one to the right with some longitudinal slots and orthogonal lateral slots

Cheers,
Stefan
