The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

OK, I'm in the process of finding a Remington for my PR but I know nothing about shotguns. But which one is it ? I'm guessing its a 12ga, right? And does it matter if it Magnum or not?

Helder

In 1986, the magnums were not that popular as duck/goose hunting was still done with lead shot (whole new thread). Go with the standard 2 3/4" chamber. Ensure your shell lifter is not silver in colour and no fancy ducky engraving on the receiver and you will be good to go. Also stay away from ribbed barrels as it's something else you will have to remove. A plain Jane Remington 870P 12 ga 2 3/4" chamber will do commonly know as the Express (Tnx Stuntman Mike).

They used a cut down (to 12 inches overall) remington 870 wingmaster for the full hero gun.

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_wingmaster.asp

Note the unfinished steel action/ejection port, and the polished bluing on the reciever.

This is a bit nicer than the express, which comes with a matte black reciever and action.

The hero gun in the film has a silver ejection port.

I bought an older express for my hero and it has the unfinished bolt.

Mine is a 870 Wingmaster. Looks great inside the cage.

Got a spas cage from uscmcorps last weekend, and have a sleeve coming in soon.

Plus having a new SD studios front end, I feel like putting in some ka-klack parts.

Living in CALI, can I just start buying remington parts to stuff in the cage?

Need some advice.

Parts for the 870 are cheap.

I am in SoCal also, and was in the same boat. I had Matsuo do the 870 cut and deact conversion. Parts are cheap but there is a ton of stuff you have to do to legally own a shottie that has its barrel that short.

You have to be very careful when dealing with actual firearms parts... especially in CA. Just getting an 870, cutting it down and putting it in the cage would leave you in posession of what is known as an SBS or short barreled shotgun, which is illegal. There are some states where private citizens can get a tax stamp and possess an SBS, but CA is not one of them. If you want to go the Real 870 route, make sure you get someone to properly deactivate the 870 before you cut the barrel to avoid any possible legal issues.
