The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

You can get some of these from Patches n Pins, though the Victory through wings patch isn't screen accurate so I've discovered. Still the rest are good. Not sure of all the other sources for these, but members here will know.

Its too small and doesn't sport a black board around the stars or the whole patch. See the discussion here. SSgt Burton sums it up.

Yeah umm...

SSgt Burton wrote:
Next you need patches- a Sulaco and Colonial Marines patch on the right shoulder, an American (or British) flag on the left shoulder, your nametape above the right pocket, and a Victory By Wings patch above the left pocket (Ferro) or on the pocket itself (Spunkmeyer). The patches are available on ebay however accurate ones are best found by asking around here.

I mentioned all this in the other thread. :|

Just to touch on the Victory By Wings patch-

Image

This is the widely available (and innaccurate) VBW patch.

And this...

Image

is the correct patch. The border is black, and the stars themselves have black outlines. The correct patch is larger than the commercially available one.

Coredeath... (No offense)- we enjoy answering questions but a lot of what you've asked is readily available in the archives section and basically you started a separate thread to ask a question I already provided the answer to in the other thread on the same subject.

Just to be clear I'm not telling you to shut up or anything.

Perhaps we could have these threads merged? Mods?

Kevin

sorry, I thought you meant the patch itself was wrong. You should also add they were screen printed

Well in all fairness I did say "ask around here" at the end of that paragraph. So I guess I'm as much to blame.

However I still think these threads should be merged. Mooooodddds? :)

As Rob (Tarim) mentioned the screen accurate patches were also silk screened, not embroidered.

I never did like the dealers room Victory By Wings patch- aside from all it's inaccuracies it's too small. It just bugs me now like the red white and blue Delta patch. I think it's idealized.

If you do go searching on ebay (trust me they are on there) try searching for Aliens patch or USCM patch.

Should we merge the threads when you only repeat what you said before? ;)

You think this thread should be merged with viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6334 or viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6653 ?

What we need people to do is use Search. Funnily enough, it would need less typing to Search than to start a new thread asking the same questions.

I'd say Topic 6653. Seems more relevant.

What we probably need is a Costume Resources thread.
A list of common components and who makes what would be a good one - maybe with people's names and the list of what they do.

I understand what you mean- but the bottom line is that any reproductions are unlicensed reproductions. So blatantly open discussion of "who makes what" shouldn't really be encouraged.

We've never had a problem with this (as in someone being issued a C&D order) but I don't think having a sticky "grocery list" of makers is a good idea. This is shaky ground.

Nobody makes unlicensed stuff here to be bought and sold. We talk about how reproduce props and wardrobe from the films for our own purpose yes? (wink wink nudge nudge say no more)

Sorry for the double post-

No I don't think the threads should be merged because I am repeating myself- I think the threads should be merged because it was unnecessary for them to be separate topics.

It would be like me (as a new member) wanting to put together a rifleman impression and starting a new thread for each part. "Who makes armour?" "Who makes pulse rifles?" "Who makes BDUs?" "What Boots do I need?" "What else do I need?"

It floods the board with topics that could all be one thread. This could also cut down when someone actually uses the search function and it returns 100+ threads on the same subject (perhaps "scaring them off" of looking through all those threads for the info).

This should have just been a continuation of Cordeath's original discussion of Dropship pilot gear (And Coredeath- just so you know- this isn't a serious infraction or anything :) ).

In fact I think what we need are "Definitive" threads- an all encompasing DS pilot thread, Rifleman thread, Smartgunner thread etc. Those are the "big three" that perhaps could be stickied (stickyed? sticky'd? ) on the Ready Line. Maybe even just with links to the related topics in the Archives (as we know how often people check the Archives first  ).

Sounds good, but there are 5000 threads and counting. I don't the job of dedupe'ing them all! ;) Even combining Coredeath's two threads would take some serious editing if we want the resulting thread to make any sense when read - it's not quite as simple as you make out.

If you want to write a truly definitive post/thread on any subject, then knock yerself out. ;)
