The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Was talking to Joy the other day and she asked me if there was a bust of chris in 1/6th scale for the 1/6th USCM marine armor. She remembers seeing some posts of it and I remember it too. Did anybody ever do one?

Hmmmm...

I could be off, but I think someone made one in 1/18th (3 3/4") scale?

Maybe Jason (Teckno Viking) or Dropship Bob?

EDIT Found this:

Enzo,
if Joy wants a miniature head of Chris and has some good photo's of him she could try this place

http://www.thatsmyface.com/

Their software allows you to upload a full frontal portrait and optionally left and right profiles from which the software then creates a 3d model which can be at many different scales, 1/6th definitely being an option.

Once the model is created other options in the software allow altering of the age of the model and even the changing of gender, finally the finished model can be full colour 3D printed.

They charge $99 plus postage for a 1/6th head and they take most Cards & Paypal, if Joy's in no special hurry it might be worth waiting a while they periodically have specials with about 20% off.

Quote:

There is a group over on sideshowcollectors.com that have had one planned since he passed away, but it's been pretty quiet with no real progress ever shown.

Just to let you that the 'thatsmyface' 1:6th heads look really bad. Bigger or smaller than 1:6 they look great but all the 1:6th ones I've seen look really really bad, poor quality and very pixelated. Plus they don't alter the base head, they just print a composite of the face shots you send them onto the head.

Rex & I happened to be part of the group of customizers and contributors on the Sideshow Freaks board who were collaborating to make a fully detailed 1:6 scale tribute to FNG. Many kind people, some who didn't even know Chris, generously donated pieces of kit and volunteered their services to the project.

Unfortunately, the very talented figure artist who volunteered to do his portrait got too far behind with all the private commissions he'd taken on, and this project ended up being shelved indefinitely. Since then things have been at a standstill. I refuse to believe anyone's lost interest.... They've most likely been too occupied with more pressing matters to have time to spare on this project.

I've been pretty inactive on the Freaks board myself until just recently. The project is stickied in the "Aliens & Robots" forum. Here's a link to it if anyone's interested. I was the last one to post there, over a month ago... I'll see if I can contact a couple of those guys and try to get an update.

http://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/sh ... hp?t=28556

I really want to see this project completed. Chris and Rex were both responsible for getting me more involved on this board, and for inspiring me to put together a costume so I could troop around with some of you at Dragon Con last summer. Contributing my time and effort to this proposed tribute to Chris, and seeing it finally completed would be just a small measure of my gratitude and respect for FNG.

Well, I posted a new message in the thread at SideshowCollectors and asked Les (the artist who volunteered to do the sculpted portrait of Chris) to let me know what the chances are of getting the project rolling again. I think he already has plenty of D-Con photo references of Chris to work from. If anyone can nail FNG's likeness, he's the one to do it. Hopefully I'll hear something from him soon.

I remember that project at the Sideshow Freaks board. I donated some parts as well. It's too bad that it stalled. Seems that happens alot with projects on that board. One of the reasons I stopped frequenting there.

There really have been lots of "hit and miss" projects on the Freaks board since I started visiting there a few years ago. Some have been glorious successes, others dismal failures, and so many potentially great ones never even get off the ground for one reason or another.

We both know of another project there that's been stalled for several years now. That was a great idea too, and one that also deserves to be completed, just like the proposed figure of FNG. Both have already been started and only need to be continued to completion. Easier said than done up to this point, however.

For what it's worth, I think both projects stalled because they weren't ready to happen yet. Even though the ideas and intentions were all good, the timing wasn't right. That's why I haven't given up on either project, 'cause I believe that things only happen when they're meant to happen, when the timing is right, if that makes any sense. Obviously this and the other project I mentioned weren't ready to happen as soon as everyone had hoped. It's disappointing, but it doesn't mean that they never will.

Btw, I hope you're still willing to lend your talents to that other project... you're still an integral part of its eventual success!

Yeah, I'm frustrated at the results-Les has incredible talent, but is waaay behind. He's got a Hicks head and a Aragorn from me for almost 3 years now. Literally, all the other pieces are ready to go. I donated a complete set of Chris's work to be used for the figure. Originally scheduled for Presentation at DCon -

I'm totally still willing to be a part of that project. Unfortunately, I can't really move ahead on my part until the other part move ahead. I do check back periodically to see if there has been any movement and still reply to PMs there, I just don't frequent the board.

Rex, the EVA armour kit you sent me is still safe & sound, along with the extra pieces of kit donated from other contributors and the EVA Pulse Rifle kit and BDU set I donated to the project. Somebody else has the rest of the pieces that were donated, but I'm not sure exactly who has what. :? I'm pretty sure Les has the head sculpt he was going to make FNG's portrait from, and that's about it.

Except for the head sculpt, I think we nearly have enough to make the figure all by ourselves. I can also donate a figure body if required. Since it wasn't originally my idea though, I've just been waiting for the other guys to get the ball rolling. I haven't had any responses to the last couple of postings I've left in the thread, so I don't know if the others have given up or what.

Aside from the portrait there were still a few bits and pieces needed to represent Chris as he appeared at D-Con '08 (probably the most iconic FNG tribute figure possible). It may take a little time to either make or track down those extras, but it shouldn't take another year! I posted a checklist on the other board... I guess it wouldn't violate any rules if I posted it here, would it?

Anyway, here are some reference pics for the FNG figure I'd like to see made...

I'm going to discuss this with the member on the other board who originally proposed the idea, and see what he has to say. If he doesn't have any objections, then maybe we can finally get this project completed by ourselves. What say you?

May be better to send them Private Messages on the other forum? That way they'd probably get an e-mail telling them they've been contacted, rather than hoping they visit those forums and read the old thread's new posts? :)

Thanks for the suggestion! That generally works best, however certain people on that board get so flooded with PMs and emails that their boxes are either always full, or it takes forever to get a reply. I've found that posting in threads they're subscribed to sometimes gets faster results, as they likely get email updates of new postings, just as I do. Anyway, I'm going to try every method available to me! :)

As Les has been swamped with commissions the last 3 years, I'm thinking the only way to get the project off the ground is to solict another sculptor- Ada Chan perhaps? The thing is, that'll cost $$- Les was doing it for free. I don't know Ada's rates.

Thoughts? We've got enough pics to get it done. I've all the parts to make a 1/6th Chris Memorial myself, I know others wanted to do so as well.

Dru?

Hmm. Getting another sculptor could be expensive, depending on who we ask. I have a couple of Ada's sculpts. She did a fairly decent Bishop a couple of years ago. She may work cheaper than some of the people I have in mind, but she can be sort of hit and miss with quality, and I hear she can be difficult to deal with... :|

There are some other really good sculptors on the Freaks board who we could at least check with for an estimate. If other people wanted sculpts of Chris for their own figures, that would probably bring the cost down too eventually. The initial sculpting commission fee would have to be up front though. I think it's a good idea and definitely worth serious consideration.

I'd still like to make the figure we originally planned to make in collaboration for Joy, if you think it's something she'd really want to have. And if possible, I'd still like to be present when she receives it. After that we could discuss making our own FNG Memorial figures. How does that sound?

That all sounds good bro. Maybe we should ask Darklord Dave how best to proceed with this regarding Les- I'm going to contact him regarding Les anyway- been 2 years waiting for Hick's head and a Aragorn- I know he's had alot of life challenges, so I haven't pushed him. Last update I got (when I asked for one) was last fall- I hope things are okay with Les.

If your doing this with the 1/6th FNG carrying the USCM flag I can print that on cloth as I did with the 4" one I made (photos added).
Also I can print out a set of patches (added photo of my Minime so you can see the patches i printed out) if someone lets me know of ALL patches he wore and I can tackle the Hacking kit too if that helps? Fancy doing one for my minime too.
