The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This is a topic i havent seen discussed here yet.
Does anyone know what Dietriches Heart monitor device is? I think it might be an osciloscope rather than medical equipment but i dont know.

something like this

Image

I just dont know the model and cant find anything really similar. Even when i type samophlange i dont find anything like that. Its just if i did find one for a reasonable price i would do a medic impersonation for the UKCM.

Maybe you need to look for a much older model. That one looks too new. The original looks like the oscilliscope we used to have in high school physics... which was from about 1900.

The carry bag looks like it was made for it... though props may have been lucky and found something that would work. What is the "window" thing to the left of the screen.... other than a samophlange

Bag maybe a radio pack bag - looks a little big for the OS. Left window some sort of needle display or a mini paper chart recorder?

The bag is the same as Frost's ammo bag (and it's not an S6 gas mask bag... we've been through that enough times.  ).

On a side note- I never noticed the tattoo on Dietrich's right forearm until now. Looks like a red cross with a blood drop.

Looks like a portable ECG machine or some other heart monitor.

I've already had a look at Google Image Search and oscilloscopes just tend to have the one display monitor and then lots of buttons/switches.

Medical monitors (such as ECG machines and foetal heart monitors) can have more than one display and often have the paper printout facility, as suggested above, so try those first. :)

Bearing in mind that you're looking for something from the 1970s up to 1986.

This is all well and good, But i would be very worried if my heart read out was a long wavy line... thats the only thing that makes me think that that line is a sound frequency. Dont get me wrong i'm not trying to argue it out and i will look at ECGs and heart monitors but I still reckon its an oscilloscope...

Heres the bag.

I don't doubt the possibility that it's an oscilloscope, just that none I've seen have another display/paper printout on them, whereas medical equipment often does. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if the ECG was supplied by Vickers Medical as they are mentioned in the credits.
Also, special/expensive equipment is usually mentioned in the call sheets for a scene - so if anyone has these checking might be a good idea....

Cheers,
Stefan

Just checked Companies House and Vickers Medical (Sidcup) were dissolved in 2006, so no way to check there. :|

Been looking at silly scopes for too long now.
A couple of things I've noticed, most of the screens are on the left side or the middle (not all but most)
so it may be upside down.
I have not found one with a printer, but I can't tell it's a printout in the picture, looks like a VHS to me :P
so maybe it was added.

That's an S6 Gas mask bag mate and as Kevin mentioned is not the one your looking for.
