HI can someone tell me what the sheath was made of for the gerber knifes, that attaches to the marine armour? Ive found a real gerber knife for sale but it says it comes with Black nylon sheath, obviously i wasnt going to use the knife as i have a resin one comming but would use the sheath if it is the corrrect one and display the knife. It says its 40 years old on the site Or are they supposed to be leather Cheers |

Hudson's sheath was black leather, as was Hicks' now I come to think of it. Hope that helps! ![]() Harry |

Didn't certain marines (like Hicks) use the Explorer Night Raider knife? |

IIRC, the one with the pointed tip at the bottom should be the correct sheath: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2368/1965531787_9008b85918_o.jpg The "other Knife" used in the movie is a Scalemead Explorer. It is the same Knife as the Night Raider except that the Night Raider has a black blade (and different markings on the blade). It was used (at least) by Hicks and Drake. Cheers, Stefan |

Check on eBay, you should be able to find a seller selling custom sheaths; AFAIK last he made a black replica Gerber sheath for 60 dollars. |

4505marcel wrote: What sort of money do they normally go for as this was for sale at £140? If it truly is 40 years old that would be a vintage Vietnam era Gerber. Those can fetch literally thousands of dollars on ebay (I've seen one go for as much as $2500.00US but of course that was during better economic times). It depends on the condition of the knife, and rarity of the production batch. Every Gerber has a serial number on the blade near the guard. You can trace the year it was produced using the Gerber MkII production matrix: http://home.comcast.net/~rfrost70/Mark2.htm Kevin |

I believe that Kevin did some comparisons last year or the year before, suggesting that the silver bladed version was the correct one. Seemed pretty convincing. @Dom: Lol. Was it the right or left ventricle? Things got a bit woozy after that. ![]() Russ |

I believe that from what was seen on screen both the all black and stainless bladed versions are accurate: Beginning of the "knife trick" sequence- ![]() Black gerber. End of the sequence- ![]() Certainly not an all black Gerber! Here is the old thread- it was only on page 30. ![]() viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4112&start=0 Hope this helps. Kevin |

No closeups of bishop starting the trick? That was a first shot of thr knife rite? It could be that propmaster was told to build a fake knife with no cutting capabilities and he didnt think of black blade?first shot is definetly black as hell!! And returning to subject, screenshots of the sheath? Black? W/sharpener? |

Quote: It could be that propmaster was told to build a fake knife with no cutting capabilities and he didnt think of black blade?first shot is definetly black as hell!! Lance Henriksen has said that they used real knives for the shot (which of course was sped up footage). He also said that he accidentally knicked the tip of Bill Paxton's finger so I don't think they were knives made by the propmaster. They had to re-shoot the scene after final shooting had ended and it was done in the middle of the night- so it could just be a continuty error with two knives- one black, one stainless. Quote: And returning to subject, screenshots of the sheath? Black? W/sharpener? download/file.php?id=807&mode=view The third sheath down (1977-1981) all black with the pointed tip is the screen accurate Hudson sheath. No sharpening stone. Here is a production still: download/file.php?id=808&mode=view Kevin |

That was after they went out for some "beverages" right? Did anything ever happen with a run of the sheaths or is that still a to do item? Thanks! Greg |
