I just made an interesting discovery in regard to one of our hottest discussion topics - Brown Bess!

Have a look at the following picture:
Image

Yes, it's BB! Both!

To the left we have BB Enamel (the old production stuff) and to the right we have BB Super Enamel (the stuff that was produced til a few years ago). Both samples were hand painted within 5 minutes and dried under the same conditions. The picture was taken without flash with halogen lighting.
Now, I finally see, why there are people who don't like BB at all (Eagle ;)) - these are the one's who used BB Super Enamel.

And now on to the discussion...

Cheers,
Stefan

Lol. I still don't like either! :P

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate BB per se, I'm just not that anal about SA! :)

The color on the right is actually closer to what it should be.

Hmm,
that's strange as the right one wasn't available when Aliens was done....

Cheers,
Stefan

PS: Kevin, yep that's what you think it is ;)

Without a doubt I prefer the one on the left if I was forced to use BB. But I am one of those evil OD fans now.

I was under the impression that it wasn't raw BB that was used to paint the stuff in Aliens anyhow? I thought it was something colour matched from a painted swatch of BB, which was then mixed later on.

I got a sample of the vintage "screen used'" BB and it was really Brown, the newer stuff ws a bit more green, by comparison Aervoe 999 was only a few values off... but aftering handling, heavy use and weathering it really rendered pure color arguments moot.

This is custom mixed using the vintage paint as a master.

This is Aervoe 999 onthe bottom vs. Krylon OD on the top.

Heavily weathered...

I have to admit that I was resistant to BB but over time it's grown on me.

That's what I have is two tins of Super BB wich is too brown for me. I went with the Krylon OD and am very happy with it. If I ever run across original BB I might reconsider.

Woot , I was just able to get my hands on 4 tins of BB enamel, (not Super enamel) I figure id give it a shot before finally going with the Krylon OD :D (I really like the look of that Krylon though)
