The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello to all.

I have been asked to add a few word's on my shoulder lamp.

I have done a mod so that the shoulder lamp works on 6 volts and 12 volts by a flick of a switch.

For this you need the following:

1 x Matsuo shoulder lamp (great bit of kit!!!!)
1 x 12volt 20watt MR16 Halogen bulb.
2 x 12 volt 2600mAh battery packs
2 x 6 volt 2600mAh battery packs
1 x Mini rocker switch 12 volt 240v 3A
1 x 3-way rocker switch 12 volt 240v 6A
4 x yellow size heat shink butt crimps
4 x red size bullet connetors
2 x meters of 16 AWG silicon wire (Black and Red)
1 x Crimpers
1 x Wire cutters and stripers
1 x Heat gun
1 x Solider iron

Here is a drawing on the wiring and layout of my Shoulder Lamp.

The batties packs are wire together by Black to Black and Red to Red to double the life of the batties. So you have 1 battery @ 6 volts with 5200mAh and also the 12 volts.

I have added a new switch to the top of the battery unit box as the side switch use to turn on while the lamp was in the suitcase and when I get to a drop the batties were dead that pissed me off.

The 3 way switch is to change from off - 6 volts and 12 volts. Is switch is the same size as the one that in the light unit. I wanted 6 and 12 volts because in the AE 12 was too bright and in dark places were you wanted a bright light 6 volts was to dark. As 12 volts is to bright for photos as 6 volts got a good glow.

If any one want's more information I can send more photos and help out more.

Thanks for this Steve, I'm guessing it's quite a snug fit in the lamp body with all of the batteries - not a bad thing though!

Hello Steve.

Yes it is but like you said it is a blessing as it does not move about.

I had to milled the back cover were the speaker is to fit the 6 volt batties in.

Great tutorial mate :)

May I suggest adding "wiring" or "tutorial" to the title so it's easier to find for others?
