The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Woah - nice!
Not perfectly screen accurate because it's not 1.5mm aluminium but that hinge won't come off! :)
I had to repair my hinge at least 3 times now.... :(

Cheers,
Stefan

Thank you all for your compliments. Stef, I did not try to make them thinner as I thought I would be casting them in resin . Good point on the hinge , I did not pay attention to that.
Anyone wants advise on making these or about these, please feel free to add or contact me.
I am still trying to make them a bit better. Btw I will fit a 2.5mm tensoil spring rod for re hinge as I did for Travis.

Sorry, if my comment came across the wrong way.
I really like the part and I think the hinge is a weak point on the originals.

Cheers,
Stefan

Wow , my own Fan club.....members 2 maybe even 3 . lol
Thank you again for your support , honestly it is comments and compliments like those that makes it really worth the while.
The real talent is found in the movies we so much love. We only are able to reproduce and copy that what it is already done , granted some get a lot closer than others with props but all forums , not just here is full of talented people.
I am currently doing a different prop (not ALiens related) and I/we have had a few dealings with an illustrator/artist for Lucasfilm Arts.
This person having first hand look on what is left of the props at ILM have said something quite interesting:

I see that ALL prop collectors and prop builders thrive at the opportunity to collect and make props close to screen accurate as possible , work their butts off to reproduce the ultimate prop using ultimate materials. In some cases exceeding the expectations of anything done ever before. It is amusing that SOME screen used prop do not come remotely close as to the quality of some of the reproduced items. Some already fell apart , and some did not even work to begin with.

I guess he was complimenting the talent of ALL members who produce props in ALL forums as well refering to companies such as Master replicas.

Marcel

As a friend of mine observed when he first saw the UKCM at a Drop;

Fan-made items very often far superior to the actual prop in terms of coolness because, where a film prop has to last just a few takes, a fan-made one must last years!!

Indeed - There's a big divide between "As seen on set", "As seen on screen" and "As would be if real".
Even the likes of Terry's armour - A lot of people find the paintjob on that a bit odd, as it's the same as the screen-used armour... Which was never seen in bright daylight in the movie.
Most fan-paintjobs aim to reproduce the item as it looked onscreen, so will be much darker than the real thing to look at in good lighting.

Like a number of us, I've been lucky to own/handle some screen used props from different films.
And as sad as it is to say, a number of them look great in the film... and are absolute CRAP in person.

More than one filmmaker has said that fan made prop replicas are usually better quality than the
screen used ones are.

TE's armor is probably one of the rare instances where the film item is better than the fan version.

I agree. I don't have any screen used props, and generally I don't really want to. You pay a premium price for something of lower quality. I prefer my prop replicas to be more idealized. I want them to look like they did on screen, but I also want them to be built like they would if they actually existed, if that makes any sense. I want them to be able to stand up to repeated handling and possibly some abuse (not that I would purposely abuse them).

Marcel, I've got your mic and drop down IR sight and they are both absolutely awesome. I am very interested in this ear piece and also the mic mount if/when you do offer them. I'll be keeping my eye out. Also, are you planning on doing the part of the ear defender mount that goes on the helmet?

Dboz, thank you again, DO you mean the top part? like on the pic? (Potter's)
Yes I have that one , I was not planning on making these as a run as such , just more for the cutomised helmets I offered.
Let me see how these turn out as a complete set and I will post something on the other forum part as I think THe Redy Line is just to show stuff . I don't want to make this thread a sale thread.
As far as the little part that swivels the mic , I have pmd you

I was talking about the other half of the hinge that mounts to the helmet itself. Looking forward to seeing more.
