The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Decided to bite the bullet about 12 months ago and cut up a sph4 helmet to build a Ferro style dropship helmet. These helmets are crazy cool looking and a great deal of fun to build so far. Got the gentex from ebay for about $225 shipped from the USA to Australia. Helmet was in good condition and fitted well. Only prob was it had the Clear lens not the tinted.

Whilst building this one I did a cheap chinese helmet for a friend Kelly. This is its result after a few mods and a gentex mic and boom was installed and some brown bess.

Removed everything from the helmet and cut the ears out as per Nobles template. Then filled all the gaps with auto filler

Then sanding and painting

A few bits arrived today in the shape of a robotech 1/48 changer. The Hamma cable releases with vinyl clear cover.
Picked up a few headphone jacks. A few more bits are on the way.

Goddamn you smoothed that left ear section out nicely! That looks extremely professional. I see you have a number of original pieces (awesome finds!), but are you also going with some of Stephen210's casting? I'm very excited to see this progress!

Thanks mate. Im using most of Stephen210s cast. But replacing any badly cast parts with original parts where available. I got another found part in the post today. Its from the Railway gun and needs to be cut down

With all the various movies that used these helmets for props, it's getting hard to find an intact one for my dad who actually wore one during the war!

That is fantastic, congratulations.

I found it an extremely rewarding project when I did mine, but nerve wracking at the same time!

Will look forward to updates.

Cheers,

Andy

Just seeing this myself, but I'll second the kudos on an awesome job with the filler. Looking great!

Thing of beauty!

I see you have a Spunkmeyer name tape there, are you considering trying his helmet next?

Thanks guys. The spunkmeyer may be done after i clear a few other builds and manage to source the nvg part or someone with a cast.
I got 1800 name tapes to make a full set of all screen used characters plus personalised a while back. I just Put it on my mk11 flight suit for the hell of it.
