The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Now that I have most of the bits, I'd thought I would start detailing this little pject I hope to have done for the London Film and Comic Con, if not, by D'Con

Working headset camera

Now, I don't wear a helmet, I have a small head which makes them look silly on me, so I'm going a bit EU with this.

The ingredients are

1 Racal headset
1 smartgunner camera body
1 Archos AV500 30gig personal DVR
1 Actioncam 420
1 Pentax 110 18mm lens (on the way)

I'll be boring through the camera housing, allowing the camera to slide in, with the cables coming out the back. I'll also be taking a chunk out of the side so the camera housing can be attached to one of the Racal's earpieces.

I don't know if I will be removing the lenses from the pentax yet... I'll have to see how it will affect the picture.

You'll probably need to remove the inner lenses from the Pentax lens Jon. If yours doesn't have one then you can get the screw on filters to go at the front which will make it look better than having no lenses in there, if that makes sense

Cheers

Darren

I've been wanting to try something like this for a while, but don't have the funds for it. I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Both FriendlySkies and PVB have put mini wireless spy cameras in their camera bodies. I believe Rook has as well.

http://www.friendly-skies.co.uk/Helmetcamtutorial.html

The difference with this project is the quality of the camera, and having a slimline recording unit. I should be able to get 4-5 hours of footage without changing batteries, so the plan is just leave it recording as I wonder around a con.

I may have trouble with a certain Alien prancing around in front of a constantly active camera ;)

That's a really cool set up!

I've done something similar, I rigged up a mini tripod to my pulse rifle that let's me take FPS video and I can tilt it so the barrel is out of the way, but I like the sneakiness of your setup :)

I have the JAZZ178 mini HD flash SD memory card camera, very small and light for what you get out of it, and I'm trying to set it up on my RACAL by using another mini-tripod to mount it with varying degrees of success.

I'll be popping by to see how it goes, perhaps I can gleam and idea or two from your progress :)

I've only got the necessary parts so far.

Not had the time (or the skill) to start putting it all together yet.

Update 1

The missing cable arrived today, so I was able to power up the camera for the first time (after I raided everything for batteries, it takes 8 AA), and got it linked to the DVR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seLAgB6wF8E

Also, the camera body is now attached to an Racal earpiece

I got this little piece of tech from ActionCameras, who have given me excellent service, the orders appearing on my desk the very next day.

My one is the 420 line resolution camera, but they go up to full 580 line res. They also do that nice bit of kit JuniorEngineerDreads was testing when we were filming, the VIO POV-1

So the first one on this page.

http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ActionCa ... meras.html

ActionCamera 420 Helmet Camera for £99.99.

Not bad at all.

The mic is good sound also.

Will it fit into the resin helmet cam housing?

So NOW what you need to do... is bin the DVR, and hook that puppy up to a wireless transmitter so we can pipe it into a TV behind the fan booth! xD

One of these days, I'm going to hook one of those up to a pinhole cam in my smartgun, and use it to put a working screen in my eyepiece.

One of these days.

I still need to work on my camera some more. The placement behind the Pentax lens gives you a bit of a "peephole" view right now as it puts a bit of a dark ring around the image.

I need to perhaps use a grinding/sanding wheel on the dremmel to make the hole bigger in the bottom of the Pentax.

Your buildup looks pretty good as well!

Time grows short and I still don't have the pentax lens, so I'm unsure how much of the camera I can have sticking out of the body.

So, being cautious, I've not bored down so far into the camera body (afraid of coming out the other side), but added a hole for the bolt to hold it in place, and a hole for the cables to be fed through.

Might be a cool mod for when I get a helmet. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the update.
