The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ok....been wanting to tackle this one for awhile. Chris was working on Hicks' shotgun case for me after DC last year, and wasnt able to get the leather to start it before he passed....SO, Im gonna do it myself. I know pretty much how he made his, all I need is two things from you my brothers and sisters.....

1. Does anyone have any pics?? They can be of Chris' back showing his case, or it can be Hicks'..

2. What type of leather should I use? Im thinking a cow hide....Chris' was a bit stiff, with a little flexibility.

Here are some pics...

Couple notes:

Hicks shotgun holster strap is made of three pieces.

There is a longer strap attached to the top of the holster.
This strap than drapes over the right shoulder and has a buckle attached at the end of the strap.

A shorter strap is attached to the bottom of the holster and also has a buckle at the end.
A third strap with holes at each end is connected to the upper and lower buckles.

(shown in the bottom three photos)

You'll also notice (in the first and last pics) that there is a strip of leather, running horizontal, just above the location of the lower buckle.
Not sure why it is there... perhaps additional reinforcement.

On the back of the interest thread, here's a few more pics, supplied I think by Mr Harry Harris, also including the replica one from Chris FNG Chulamanis. 8)

One pic shows other items of note, including the duct tape holding the knife sheath, lighter case and even I think one of the popguns, along with the cord/string/wire loop from the main belt to the welder.

Ask and ye shall receive: it's even MOLLE compatible. ;)

That's what I'd consider to be a 'hicks equivalent'- but the leather version being proposed looks so much cooler IMHO :)

Karl Derrick just sent an initial teaser pic of one of the finished scabbards.

More pics to follow. :)

If anyone else wants Karl to make one in future, he had this to say:
Quote:
I'll take orders for these in threes, as one is way too much work on its own for the price tag.

I hand dye the leather three colours in my 'brindle' finish for the scabbard and the lacing,
cut the lacing by hand, edge dye and polish all the straps.
You'll see when you get it. Lots of work.

Worth it though, they do look nice.
Even if I say so myself

Karl explaining a bit about the making of it:

Quote:
Two layers of different coloured dyes applied by hand to the whole hide before it's cut into the pieces for the scabbard.
I make an applicator I call a 'Rag rose' by scrunching up a piece of old T-shirt. The rose is dipped into dilute leather dye and the scrunched pattern applied to the bare leather. I usually do a couple of contrasting colours. The effect is really nice, like a 'brindle' almost.

Combined with the natural figuring and surface features of the leather, the effect is very pleasing.
Very Frontier, quite 'Versey!

Badger

I've obtained a *cough* HD file of the film, so I can take screenshots of it.

Here's a couple more pics, showing the spine/rib down the whole length of it, not just the top flap.

In this scene, just after the DS crashes into the APC, as he gets up you can see how floppy the scabbard is without the I37 in it.

I'll pass these on to Karl, in case he wants to revise/update his design for any future orders. :)
