The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Tanaka M40 Firing Grenade Look Alike. What do you think?

Well I decided that the standard green shotgun shells that come with the Tanaka M870 Shotgun AKA the Pulse Rifle Grenade Launcher pulled me out of the "experience". I don't remember Pea Soup Green grenades in the movie. ;)

The Tanaka is perfect because it really takes no mods to have a firing Grenade Launcher so I decided to try and make it more authentic. So what do you think of my solution?

These are before and after shots. I am not sure why the forum is crunching up my images but you get the idea.

Make sure you give it a good coat of varnish etc so you don't rub off the nice paintjob!

Funny enough I have run the grenade through about 20 times now and the paint still looks awesome. Doesn't seem to be very rough on it. I will make up a video soon. It holds two shells easily and it's extremely fun. It's got a nice loud sound when it fires as well.

I ran into a small problem inside the Tanaka where the shells would get stuck on a specific piece. Two seconds of Dremel to smooth that part down inside turned into 20+ cycles with zero jamming. It's smooth as silk and sounds amazing. If anyone else runs into this problem message me and I can show you the fix (bloody easy).

Highly recommended if you are doing a "hero" rifle. The metal body adds some nice weight and the gun was very easy to work with. I plan on "converting" all of my shells into the above format.
