Post subject:  Enough!

Last time I checked, this is the Colonial Marines Forum. It is not a politically correct sensitivity session.

I am sooooo damn tired of all the frakkin' Bullcrap
that has been going on.

We are all part of a Brotherhood. We joke, rip on one another, help each other all the darn time.

We will needle each other on the forums...constantly. Have been doing so for so long, it's in the "official manual of rules" 8)

There have been some justified gripes and some non-justified gripes.

It's been dealt with. Done. Over. Finished. Moved On.

This forum has a "family feel". We are all brothers and sisters here. We can and will disagree with one another. That's the way it is.
But, when the time comes, we all stick together and watch each other's back.

That's the way it is.

We cannot let this forum deteriorate.

We are Colonial Marines. We Rock Hard and Party Harder.

No Costume Group at DCon Has More Fun Than US!! We don't just "pose for pics", we live the characters we are. We do Colony Sweeps for frakkin' sakes!!

No Frakkin' Whining Allowed. We are NOT a "PC" group.

We don't wear frakkin' aprons.
We wear armor and carry Pulse Rifles, Smartguns, Flamers and other BFG's.

No Frakkin' Whining Allowed

Agreed, I've been too busy buying a house to stop in much. From the sound of it I'm glad I missed whatever the F happened.

Actually, we're the OTHER Colonial Marines. We're the Colonial Marines that don't say "Frak".

The Galactica Colonial Marines are the ones you seem to be thinking of.

Also, Anubian Warrior wears an Apron at DragonCon all the time.

So many holes in your argument!!

:)

But you are right, when we do get pissy with each other over something, we always make up afterwards.

lol, I could bitch that we're not just Marines but given the circumstances, I won't. lol

:xeno:

I was gonna post something similar (but a bit less xenophobic ...) but Rex beat me to it.

If someone posts something that you disagree with then you should post your own view, but think before you do. Does it add something to the discussion? Have you misinterpreted the post that you want to reply to? Was it just an attempt bait flame?

Think about every board member that you have met in person; I bet 99% are sound guys. It's easy to mis-write or mis-read a post on a board like this. If you have problems with what someone writes that makes you think they're an arsehole then maybe contact them in a PM. You have a 99% chance that they didn't mean it how you read it.

If we don't all take care, this forum will self-destruct.

If Spat & I were able to kiss and make up (this is in reference to settling differences and not embracing after putting on cosmetics), any of you can too!

C'mon guys, let's stop the fussin' and a-feudin'.

For me that is what this place has always been about.

Amen Brother!

And I think Pug said it best that something gets "lost" in the translation between what a person has to say- and how it comes out in a post. Emoticons help to a degree- but you cannot replicate all the nuances associated with spoken language. That coupled with the fact that knowing someone in real life- you can take their comments a certain way, whereas having never met them, their very same comments could be taken differently.

Hollis DZC. First off I absolutely agree with the principal of your first post. Noble intentions indeed. However you make a whole load of presumptions that might very well be part of the reason there is friction on the board in the first place.

Please consider there are some four hundred plus members of this forum, not everyone wants to be called marine (Marine Kev ;) ), not everyone dresses as a Marine, in fact a vast majority here don’t even costume at all.

The original board’s conception as written on the main forum is “The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!”

Years back the board was created to talk about the movies, many people here just want to do that. We all have varied interests, some only in ‘cannon’ items, some not. Some people don’t want to be corrected on their grammar and aren’t interested in the new putrid pink camo or the made up L69 combat wis-bang super plus cannon.

(I’m not suggesting there is no room for non-cannon just putting forwards ideas why some people may take umbrage with post after post of what they consider OT.)

We are truly a global board with membership spread across the planet. I would also suggest that maybe there are some significant cultural differences that everyone needs to consider. In your face HooRaa! I’m an ass kicking Marine! Doesn’t always sit well with everyone across the world.

Not looking to start an argument just looking to maybe make people realise their differences and consider the ramifications of their words. :D

Os, I think I understand where you're coming from, but also understand where I'm coming from too.

It's not just the "Oooo-rah, kickass Marine" we're talking about, it's about camaradarie.

Just that we have a "thicker skin", and where cultural differences can and will occur, what I'm saying is that the first thought shouldn't be that one is being disrespected in any way, but that we mean no harm, we're merely being playfully joking with one another.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Discussion about the films, EU, Technical Manual, etc. isn't really what we were referring to.

Cool?

Have to say, I'm with Kev on this one. I'm not saying there isn't room for, or shouldn't be, 'EU' stuff, but it seems to have come to dominate the forum, which I guess makes me visit less.

I kinda think it is relevant, because everything seems to get more personal, which seems to lead to people rubbing each other the wrong way.

Well, in some ways, I think almost everything that can be discussed about the films has been discussed. And until they make a new (good) Alien film, or something that's officially cannon comes out, we've covered almost everything.

As such, we're just naturally bound to move on to other things, EU, or other films.

Wanna fix it? Go out and force Hollywood to make a GOOD addition to the Alien franchise.

We'd all be behind you 100%!

OoohRaa Asskicking Marine offensive?

Not wanting to chase anyone away but... if you're not a Marine (in costume I mean) then what the hell are you?

I understand that we do have some Bugs, but some of them don't mind being Marines also. Even if they don't, then they are still welcome and we don't go out of our way to exclude them.

If we had more "techy" types like some Weyland-Yutani reps or such then I would understand the reasoning behind that statement.

Non-canon has become much more accepted here than in other fan groups (other than I think ResEvil folk, they go mondo EU) because we don't have "Aliens Specific" conventions like Trek or Star Wars people do. We don't have a Council that sets out the 25 specific canon points of a costume and the 10 alternate points to be considered "formal". Even though a lot of us are or were members of groups like that... are burnt out. And we just want to be friends and BS and have fun at the same time.
