Post subject:  Kango trouble!
Hey there!

Had some time today, so I started taking my LV-426... I mean Kango 426 apart.
Now, the grip is off, most of the Kango body is apart, BUT: there are four screws, two next to the knob (i.e. front, under the drill-head somewhere) and two going from the top downwards. These probably hold the top and bottom part of the Kango together. I can't get them out!!! They're holding so tight and the phillips screw head is so worn down that there's virtually no chance of getting them out, my screwdriver is doing cricles in them. HOW do I go about getting them out? I could drill through them, but then I can't screw the parts together again later. Or I could try and dremel off the head, but then the screw body is stuck inside forever... Do I even need to remove them to get the innards out? Probably yes, at least to get my electronics IN later...

Help me get my Motion Tracker up and running to detect the threat around me! :roll:

Pulseriflefan, thanks, I saw that and found several other guides/drawings etc. Makes my life a little easier. :)

Matsuo, thanks a lot! Will try to find something similiar around here, alternatively I'll order them through that site. That seems to be a good system, taking the screws out with a torx.


Also, I've been thinking about it. Judging from the pics in the hyperdyne tutorial (step 1), the screws I need to get out are exactly the ones where there's a bit more plastic between the screw head and the shaft where it'll screw into. That means if everything else fails, I could still try to sand down the screw heads, take the Kango apart and then use pliars to grab to the bits that are still sticking out and take the screws out. Hopefully it won't come to that but at least I know there would still be a tiny little bit of the screw sticking out.

Use your dremel and cut a slotted head and use a standard screwdriver.

Heh, that is exactly what I tried to do.

Here's how it went: I got three of the screws out, but the last one was stuck so much, I couldn't get it out. So I thought that I could make it slotted. Unfortunately, it got so hot while dremeling that the plastic under it started to melt. This was how it finally got unstuck though, and I could screw it out (although it still was barely moving at all, man was that Kango abused...)

So now I've got some clean-up work on the drill housing to do, but I can still use a (new) screw as long as I use a washer to compensate the lost height due to the plastic melting.


Thanks to you all, that was a piece of work. Although it looks like gutting that thing is gonna get worse... :roll:

Uh... so just for the record, I don't need any of the innards, right?

I mean, it's not like I toss it and hen suddenly you guys say "no man, the Kango metal rod is the Smart Gun barrel, and the chuck is Hudsons futuristic deodorant roller" or something.

'Cause even if it is, I'll throw that greasy stuff away! Blech! That's just gross. 8)

Whew, finally got the two circlips out.
Thing is: the chuck still won't move. Also, the chuck is still blocking the main assembly inside the Kango top, so I can't get anything out at all. Why isn't it moving? I thought that the chuck would come out when the circlips are gone? There seems to be only one "ring" left, and that's the one at the back, that's holding the main "chassis" thingie inside...

Also, how do I get rid of the lever that allowed movement for the side rod? There's the spring that pushes it back, but I can't get that out since it's stuck between the lever itself and the Kango wall, and the lever is also too wide to get out with the spring still in the way. o I have to just cut off the "knob" the lever sits on?

I sawed through the main chuck on mine in the end. I couldn't get the second circlip out for love or nor money. Sawed through, fell out, bobs your uncle

Holy crap! And the chuck is out!

If there ever was such a thing as the "most helpful post on a message board"-award, I vote that you should get it!

I did not realize that part Nr. 57 was a circlip too, since it was facing down in my Kango. Turned it around and out the whole innards were.
