The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I seem to remember a line from the title sequence of 'Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World' that credited him with inventing the communications satellite. But that was in the 80s, so the memory could be letting me down a little there.
Age 15, I found a copy of 'Of Time And Stars' amongst some books my mother (an avid reader of paperbacks) was given. Read it, loved it, lost it or loaned it. Age 36, I found a reasonable copy with the same cover in a charity shop. It's now sharing shelf space with 2001 and it's brilliant sequels.
90's a damn good innings, but I'm still sad the world's lost someone so optimistic and talented. We're all a little worse off now.

He conceived of the idea of "geosynchronous orbit", now common in satellites
