The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I searched a bit and didn't find anything definite about a pattern for the VP70 "quilted" holster. Anybody got a pattern or at least have one they could put a good scaled picture (with a ruler or something for reference). What is the material? I'm assuming it is just machine quilted before stitching it together? I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine and need a good excuse to get it out.
thanks,

Material is heavy OD canvas duck.

I'd use no.10 / 12-14 oz weight.

My sample maker made me one, not sure if she still has the patterns though.

Stephen210 had an original Boyd holster for sale not too long ago.

(that is what the USCM holster is based off of)

I remember that thread, but can't find it anywhere- the comparison between the black original and the copy. I'd love to have a picture with a ruler for scale though.

Is this the holster with the un-tactically loud velcro?

wow- nobody seems to like posting pictures lately...and usually people are so anxious to show off their props! Come on- maybe I'll even start producing these if I can get a first one made!

LOL Tactical Your worried about that?
If our standard armor where a different material maybe.

We walk around in Armor with pulse rifles and 30 mm Grenades and your worried about velcro noise?
Who really is going to heaar it over the clacking of the armor?
Then if they do it's at the point where you have expended all the PR ammo so me thinkin they know your there already bit to late to worry about noise.

Are we sure the original pattern is from the Boyd holster?
(Where did this info originate?)

While searching for similar holsters, I came across this Makarov holster.
I've had this photo saved for years because it has been the closest I've seen to the USCM holster.

Image

There are some strong similarities to the shot of Dietrich, on the right.
Not only do both appear to have a ring on the bottom with a tie down strap, the Makarov holster has
the velcro strip and it even has a quilted flap.

(Is it a possibility?)

The think with that Makarov besides the size is that in the mid 80's they would have been cheap leather or imitation leather then the fact that outside the iron curtain would have been dang hard to find.

Don't hold your breath for one though; I asked for one in September and haven't had a reply yet.

I asked when ordering the 3pat as well and didn't get an answer again.

Perhaps I'm on his 'ignore' list?

Also, check out the holster in this thread by Ripstick:
http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic ... +vp70+vp70

Doesn't have to be worn drop-down, can be worn on belt sans the leg pad.

Not screen accurate but green and with the quilting, so it's a nice off-the-shelf alternative. It's what I use.
