Post subject:  Resin Spulse - Sandpaper?

I just received my Spulse III and I wanted to start prepping it. What kind of sandpaper would I use on this for the various steps of it (initial sanding, sanding excess, etc.). I'm going to Home Depot soon, so responses would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't own a Spulse Rifle, but I've worked with resin a LOT. I use my dremel with a sanding drum to make quick work of removing resin warts, bumps, flash, etc. in addition to roughing up areas that will be joined with adhesive.

Next pass I do is with sandpaper starting at 220 grit. Be careful as this one is pretty course and can be used to take down raised areas quickly.

Next, I hit it up with 400 grit. Depending on the work, I may follow this with 600 grit (sometimes wet sanding at 600 too).

Unless you're polishing something, you shouldn't have to go past 400 or 600 grit for things that will get painted. IMO. I have polished acrylic with grits in the thousands, but for a resin kit I think you'll be fine with these 3.

Wet sandable only.

120 grit for really grinding down screwed up parts.
(probably won't need this, because the kit looks pretty good)

220 grit general clean up

320 grit fine clean

400 grit final

I don't recommend going higher than 400, you risk the primer not
sticking due to being too smooth.

Hope that helps.

Wow I feel lazy. I use 220 for a final then primer as my primer fills in most imperfections. I do sand the primer with 400 just to achieve the baby bottom feel.
