The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

im having a few problems wiring up my headset to work with my radio.
i got 5 wires on the headset, the black iv put on one pin on the sterio connector, and on each of the other 2 pins ive put 1 wire from the earpiece, and one from the mic.
the earpiece works fine, but having problems with the mic - the person im talking to can barely hear me talking, and theres loads of static! iv played around with the wires, but just cant seem to get it right!

According to the instruction manual a preamplifier is needed "to amplify the output of the Minilite microphone to carbon microphone level."
The PTT-box that the full set came with does not contain a preamplifier!
So with an additional preamplifier everything should work fine.

Cheers,
Stefan

I just checked the manual and the wiring should be like this:

Mikrophone: Green and Yellow (both wires are shielded)
Earphone A: Brown and White
Earphone B: Blue and Red
PTT-Switch : Grey and Pink (these wires only go from the PTT-switch to the connector - so if you have a blue set you won't have these)

Cheers,
Stefan

That looks very promising.

Let us know how you get on Fraz.

It will be so cool if we can all get mic'd up!!

Looking at the picture of it I'd say that the wiring is:

Grey: Output -
Red: Output +
Black: Input -
Blue: Input +

Argh. Just when things were beggining to make sense. In the full set Grey/Pink is part of the PPT cicruit.

I want to make sure I patch the pre-amp after the mic rather than before it.

I don't like to disagree, but I do ;) If there are only these four terminals, I'd say:

Image

The Red (+) terminal is the +ve terminal of the power supply to the amp

The Black (-) terminal is the -ve power supply terminal, and common ground.

The input is connected across the IN (Blue) terminal and the common ground (-).

The output is connected across the OUT (Grey) terminal and common ground (-).

Of course, if you we're talking about the Racal wiring, then it's back to deciding which of the diagrams in the manual to believe ...

Sorry yes the Racal mic input/output.

I though the preamp being clearly labelled would be self obvious. :o

On the subject anybody got a relatively understandable PPT wiring diagram for a motorola style mini/micro connector?

Or a scan of the wiring diagram from the instructions.

The problem I've hit is finding a definitive pin-out diagram for the headset connectors on modern walkie-talkies; I can't get the PTT to trigger even with an external switch.

I did the pin outs for the two prong motorolas on my

old minilite diagram.

Man, 2005. Seems awhile ago.

I'm thinking of gutting one of my headsets and putting in
a modern mic. Also updated my radio to the single pin type
motorola. I could ID the terminals too.
