The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Dear All

I'm afraid that whilst I have very rarely written on the Board, the current (what I find) “bitchiness” between some members and the on-going hunt for funds towards the FNG memorial Fund is the final straw for me. I am leaving the Board :(

When I decided to join the Board it was because it really seemed a community of friendly people who like to have a good laugh together. However, over the last few months, it has just become a bit too ‘heavy’ for me with what appears to be clashes of egos. This has really come to light with the on-going saga of the FNG memorial Fund.

Whilst I understand the sentiments behind it, I personally feel that you do not really need to make items for purchasing in order to contribute to a Memorial Fund. One would either want to contribute to a Fund or not. If you knew FNG personally then wearing a T-shirt/having a poster/wearing an armband with his name will not make any difference to your memories of him. If you didn’t will wearing a T-shirt/having a poster, wearing an armband, etc, make you feel any different?

I have enjoyed reading your antics on the Board and it was a pleasure to meet some of you last year. You lot amaze me with your knowledge of all things Aliens and Sci-Fi and the fact that you manage to find time out of your private lives to attend conventions/exhibitions, etc, many of you in costume. You obviously have very understanding other halves and families and I salute them as well.

Thank you for letting me join the board, albeit for a short time and I hope that my personal views just written will have no reflection on any of my good friends here on the Board.

Stay Frosty

Angela

i think different people like to remember lost ones in different ways. no one is saying you have to buy something to contribute to FNG's memorial fund, but the option is there if you want an actual item to remember him by or to show others your respect for him and those he left behind. personally i think its great that these items are available and really shows he was loved by so many. But of course it such a delicate matter that sometimes tempers will flair and words said that will offend others. but at the end of the day it goes to show he was a great man that was loved by many.

i can understand your reasons for leaving, but its still sad to see a forum member go. i wish you all the best.

Ya know, its your choice to leave..but this is what friends do..they bitch at one another. Why? Because we know we can without getting into any REAL stupid arguments..and letting it lead to something more.

The FNG memorial and making things to honor Chris is how some of us keep his spirit alive...I hate to say it, but we Americans (and I guess Canadians too now) are the worst about doing that. All day long I see bumper stickers honoring the firefighters in NY, or an officer killed in the line of Duty or (Heaven forbid), a tribute to Dale Earnhart...(thats mostly for the redneck NASCAR fans though) BUT, we are sentimental. Now, I dont know how it is in other countries, but thats the way it is here...

I had a great friend call me last week when all this started and asked me if they should leave the board..my answer, Hell NO!! Over some idiotic BS between a few people..come on. I have NEVER seen anything on this board that would make me ever leave...and if someone made comment about a subject I was touchy with, Id suck it up..and take it as their opinion. But Id NEVER let anything upset me so much to leave my BROTHERS here on this board...whatever happens ALWAYS works its way out, through pure maturity amongst adults. For example, Dom and Spats little spat (haha)...it got a little heated, but in a day or less, both guys kissed and made up. Why? Because between the two of them, they equal an adult...(again, hehe)

Im sorry if I seem a bit pissy, but in my eyes, your excuse is no reason to abandon the best bunch of guys on the internet.

Rant off..

Derek

Good luck.

I agree with Dom and Derek; this place is close-knit and moreover... we're all human (unless there's an android running around here and there) and are bound to disagree from time-to-time. It happens.

We may argue, or disagree, or flat-out bitch at each other here and there... but it always blows over and friendships are still intact... just as in face-to-face relationships of all kinds.

I would just like to point out for the record, that contrary to Derek's comments, Dom and I have NEVER kissed. And, god willing, never will.

No offense to Dom, but I like my men a little more... butch.

And sorry to hear you're leaving, we're short on female members as it is, so to lose even one is a pretty big deal.

Would you stay if we promised to be gooder in the future?

:xeno: ? Don't forget ME!

Hey Angela. Why not take a break for a week or two. This board has had a few little nasty patches in it's history, but it's always smoothed out pretty quickly.

You'll be welcomed back anytime.

Noooo! Don't leave me alone with all this testosterone!!!

I agree that some things have got a bit out of hand recently but I guess that's because some people are still hurting over their loss of Chris. I didn't know the guy and I'm sorry he's gone but I just don't read the posts about him. That's the beauty of the internet - if its not relevant to your interests you don't have to read/look at it.

Take what you want from the site and ignore the rest of the silliness. ;)

It’s a shame you feel you have been put in this position Angela

I don’t visit the forum too much myself now days as it has changed direction from its original conception. But I do pop in now and again to check up on my friends. I’d ask that as mentioned earlier maybe you give it a rest for a few weeks and reconsider leaving.

PM’d you something more personal.

For what it's worth I'd say everybody here has been pretty tolerant toward my sometimes drunken rants. Being there when FNG passed was real hard on me and still is, but everybody here does what they must to remember him, and raising money to offset costs well I don't think that's such a bad idea. I know Dom got his car broken into and had the first memorial plaque ripped off, it had to cost something to replace. I have nothing bad to say about anybody here. I would contribute myself but every little bit of money I have to save so I can try to make it to D-con this year so I can meet these guys that Chris talked about so much.

Sorry to hear you are leaving. If you knew Chris as well as most everybody here did and what a helluva guy he was you'd understand why everybody loved him and want to remember him. Hope you come back.

Scott
