Post subject:  M240 Flame thrower parts?

Hi all, as I save up the cash for my PR I figured I would set about making a screen accurate M240 FT. I have scoured the forums for info and have found out lots , so thanks :)

I would however like to know if anybody has a list of all the components required to make this? I have great images of how the PR is assembled from its component parts, is there something similar for the FT?

Thanks

Well, essentially it's a heavily modified M16.... although mine isn't screen accurate, here's a look anyways.

Nice FT man, thanks for posting the pic, does anybody know what the end nozzle is or is this a custom part?

Im in the process of one myself.....Ive searched and searched and cant find anything remotely similar to the tip, so I'm willing to bet its custom, like the handle....btw, the "barrel" is a grenade launcher shroud from an M16, in case you were wondering.

It's actually the handguard from the 203 equiped vesion on the M16.

The main body is the upper and lower receivers of an M-16- placed front to back. I believe the upper receiver is backwards on the flame thrower in relation to how it would be on an actual M-16.

I dont know how accurate Doms flame thrower is there, but the muzzle tip, the black part, looks like a flash suppressor for a m16 with some added bling,to be the lighting flare for the fuel, glued to the underside of it..

Not really... it's much too big to be a flash suppressor.

The receiver is from an M16A1 turned backwards. You can get repro semi auto AR/M16A1 receivers still, but the lower is a serial numbered part, and might require some paperwork to cut modify like that. Probably better off just butchering an airsoft. That way no real gun has to die.

The front hand guard is the M203 guard from the M16A1 or A2. You can get these, or ones made for the 37mm civilian "flare guns" fairly easy.

As far as a parts list,
here is what I've gathered:

M16A1 upper receiver
M16A1 lower receiver
M203 handguard
Delta ring
Ejection port cover assembly
Safety selector switch
M16A1 bolt catch
A1 rear sight assembly
w/ Sight adjustment knob

OK, I've been meaning to add to this post, especially after the Nerf vs PR thread. I picked up my M240 last year from Shaw Morgan shawnmorgan13 (at) aol (dot) com for $250 plus shipping. It came assembled and primed. I painted mine Brown Bess (yeah I love that colour, right Dom? :P ) with black accents as required. Shawn cast this resin prop from an original screen used flame unit (would love to hear the story on how he got it). This is the Cadillac version of M240 Flame unit. Being resin, it IS not as tough as a some of the PR's I've seen around different con's so you must treat it accordingly. I did let mine sling slip from my shoulder and dropped the flame unit fuel bottle directly on the floor (Ash was there) and it broke at the weak spot, the neck. Fixed it up & carried on partying at All-con. Since then, I got another fuel bottle from Shawn ($50). Oh yes, Shawn fills the inside of the weapon body and fuel bottle with some kind of spray in foam to make it sturdier.

Here I am with some Arcturan poontang at Dcon 07. Note the "Frost" bag (tnx Darren 8) ) (oh yes, I'm also carrying my Flame Unit)

Here is a link to my photobucket pics of the M240 Flame Unit. If anyone wants any other closeup pix of my M240, drop me a PM & I will happily send them to you.

Aside from that revolting colour that Mike's flamer was painted with... it's a damn nice kit, worth the money.

Mike,

Shawn's model of the flame unit is not a cast of an original! His master was constructed from M16/M203 parts and wood (which makes this even more impressive in my eyes). It's definitely the best reproduction out there, but if you compare it closely to the originals you can spot some differences. The most obvious are the shape of the pilot flame housing and the bottom of the tank.

Cheers,
Stefan
