So I just got my SPH.. ![]() Looking around, it doesn't seem as if there's a lot of reference to be had on the drop lids. I'm going to be attempting to replicate Ferro's helmet, was wondering if anyone had attempted the greeblies on the ears? I was also wondering if anyone knew if the SU helmets were painted or retained the original OD plastic? Couldn't find anything helpful in the archives... |

Two of these photos were ebay images, the rest I believe came from Jesse Degraff and were posted to the old Ezboard forums. The photos are of both Ferro's and Spunkmeyer's helmets. Enjoy! Russ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Is the greeble on the right side of both helmets supposed to be the equivalent of a helmet cam? Awesome pics! ![]() ![]() As for the Megatron piece- it looks like part of the barrel extension? The part that slipped over the P38 barrel- ![]() |

My bad. They look a hell of a lot like brake cables, then I found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5mm-Titanium-Look ... dZViewItem |

That would be a good substitute if you cant find them. They look to be basically the same thing anyway, all you'd need to do is fabricate something to go on the ends which shouldnt be too hard I imagine. nice find mate. Cheers Darren |

The brake cables in my bike actually have the metal tips on the end, which is what I thought I recognised. Strange coincidence ![]() Edit: here ya go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brake-Cable-Road- ... dZViewItem |

There's something awfully familiar about that piece... ![]() Like the bottom part of a Franchi SPAS 12 foregrip with a couple greeblies attached perhaps. ![]() ![]() |

Alright, alright... so I've got 1980's Italian gun parts in my head instead of 1980's Transformers parts. ![]() However, I am now starting to believe that Kevin knows what he's talking about... ![]() ![]() |

What tool did you use to cut the ears Birdie? Derek |

The 'kidney' shape, I used the dremel to cut out a square to get access, then used a jigsaw to cut out the shape. I cut about 1/4 inch inside the pencil template. I then used a drill mounted sanding drum to sand up to the lines. The other side I used a junior hacksaw to just 'slice a section' through the ear. Now I just need to hand-sand to get them 'just so'. The plastic cuts pretty well, you shouldn't get any melt or shatter issues. If you are good with a dremel cutter, I daresay you could do most of the job wth that. I don't get on with the things... Should have my Smart Gun done tomorrow ![]() |

I attempted scratch building the ear parts back in 2001, but in comparison to the pics of the screen used helmets, I was waaaaay off. But I was mainly going for something "close". Back then, Jesse was building the details using much better reference than I had (and this was before the above photos were found), so I built mine with it in mind to replace mine for his. Still waiting till this day! ![]() |
