 Post subject: Leg Armor Sizes

Someone just contacted me and it seems that his leg armor is not tall enough for him. He's pretty tall, and was asking about a custom sized set of leg armor, which sadly would be really expensive to make for just one person.

So I was wondering if there was really enough need out there for different sizes of leg armor?

The shin armor I make now is about 13" tall, and seems to be ok for those about 5'5" to 6'2" or so. Shorter Marines can trim the armor down to make it fit better, so they don't really need new armor.

So the question becomes, how many Marines do we have out there that are over 6'3" and feel that their leg armor is too short?

And, does anyone have any other ideas for ways to make it work without a custom set of leg armor?

Without a custom longer armor piece, the only thing that comes to mind is to do as the Clonetroopers do.

Graft a new piece on top, glue a shim to the backside to hold the two pieces together and fill in the front seam, before painting it.

* Or perhaps some modified baseball shin guards (?)

Mine could stand to be 1" longer. At DC they slid down so that the top of the knee armor was pushing up against the bottom of my patella, and that started to really hurt. I'm of average height, too.

They still looked good, though, unlike my old ones, which, when they slid down, had kneepads quite obviously nowhere near my knees...

Just how long is their shin? I'm long legged, but shorter torso (I'm taller standing than sitting next to somone shorter than I).

My original Sparmor guards were Waaaaaay too short, and the ones I bought a few years ago from another vendor are longer than those, but again, about an inch too short. When they sag down to the top of the foot the top of the knee cup hits me mid kneecap. :)

My inside leg measurement is 36 inches.

From base of knee cap to ankle/top of foot is 18 inches.

The top of the armour knee pad sits about an inch below the base of the knee cap.

But I'm only 5'9" tall due to an 'abnormal growth' issue called Gorlin's Syndrome, which gave me very long arms and legs but a twisted spine, shortening my body and neck a lot.

My former orthopedic surgeon told me that, if my body and neck were in proportion to my arms/legs, I'd be over 7 foot tall.

I'm 17" myself. The shin guards I have now are appx. 14" in those same positions, perhaps 15" depending on how it's placed on the leg (before it starts gravity sagging). Still 2" too short to keep the knee armor actually ON the knee. :)

Well as a tall person myself, I`ve just measured same area as Rook & PVB & I`m 18 inches too ( ooo errr).

Having the longer shins maybe a good idea :D

Ok, after Halloween, Larger Shin armor will be on the list of things to make. Is the Calf armor ok? Or does that need to be longer as well?

Keeping it to scale with the shin section, I reckon increasing the calf one from its current 11 inches to about 13 inches would be good. :)

For the bottom of the armour to sit on top of my boot, and the top at a comfortable level so the kneecap doesn't go under my own kneecap, I reckon I'm about 18" as well, so I'm definitely in for a set if done that way.
Specially if they have pleather :)
