The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Now with there being all these new patches coming out (UK, UA, and now UE), is it time to break things up a little more with local unit patches?

I'm thinking something along the lines of a smaller patch tghat goes below the flag on the arm of the BDU's to designate a more local area. For the US guys, it would show the state you are from, the UK guys, the area in the UK, the UE guys, the country, and the UA guys, the province of Canada.

Or am I going to far with this?

I'm thinking of a 2" - 2.5" round patch that would go under the flag patch.

Well that's cool, for a ship patch. Which I suppose could be used instead of Spat's idea. But another patch is kind of cool...

Yeah, the ship patch is covered by the armor. I was looking for an additional patch to go on the arm that would be seen.

Sorry, I misunderstood the assignment

We are wearing a Maryland flag on the Right breast pocket, but it was meant to be worn under the armor, so we look like everyone else all gussied up.

Of course, I could still be missunderstanding what you mean

I was thinking of a Squad patch (for lack of a better term) that would go on the sleeve, under the flag patch to designate which state in the US, or Country in Europe, or City in the UK, or Province in Canada you are from. Would make it easier at cons and stuff to look at your fellow Marine's sleeve, and instantly know if he's local to you, or how far away he travelled to get there.

Just a thought.

I like the idea of the new ship patches, but again, it's covered by the armor and only seen when you are in BDU's alone.

I think Spat was suggesting something that represents your state without really being that bold.

Maryland could have a jumbo lump crab cake, while Florida was a pair of Mouse Ears... :)

Mmmm... Crab Cake....

And are the Maryland Marines going to be making an appearance at Farpoint in February?

I'm negotiating right now to be a guest at that show.

Personally I dont think it is necessary but maybe that is just me and the fact that I am in the UK. I wouldn't want one that said Portsmouth on it TBH, I think it would look a bit naff.

I think the USCM/UKCM/UACM variations are enough myself and dont think we should start moving away from the screen accurate stuff anymore than is really needed.

just my 2 pennies

Cheers

Darren

Sure, give yourselves the cool, custom patch, and then shut the whole thing down. Ever think that we Yanks are jealous that we don't get any cool patches?

Maybe I'll make up NYCM patches! Ha! So there!

New York in the HOUSE!!

Don't get me wrong Spat, I think the variations on the Eagle patch are great and no doubt more will surface as time goes by. I only meant I don't see the need for creating completley new patches (other than variations of existing ones - such as the eagle and the ship patch) that were not in the movie. But like I say that is just my opinion.

Cheers

Darren

Agreed. In fact I'm screen accurate as much as possible (except I use my last name  )

But of course! We already have rooms reserved and everything! Of course, we may not all have full armor by then, but we will have our usual tables in the bar. ;-)

I'm not against the idea... Brian has his Hawai'i flag and Pt Constantineau, on of my Quebec-based boys wears a the Quebec Fleur-de-lys below hig flag...

I would leave it up to individual choices, but I don't see a need to regulate the BDUs... on the exception of the Dress Blues.

At the very least we could get a EUB patch made up.

Definitely! I was thinking of making it as a name tape over at camotech. Wear it between the flag and rank on left sleeve?

EUB... I love it.

Well I mean lengthwise. I used 8 inches, then folded when I sewed mine own... so... 5 inches then folded under should do it.

perfect!
