The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

G'day folks,

Got a quick question for you knowledgable folks... I have recently acquired all the parts for a real-steel M41-A build, and was wondering about the legalities of performing the necessary modifications to both a deactivated M1A1 and M870 in the UK?

Obviously the law takes the handling of deactivated weapons fairly seriously, and I wouldn't want to be seen to be attempting to reactivate the weapons by modifying the Proof-House certified structure of them.

Any help appreciated!

TBH this isn't something I have any real knowledge but I'm sure some of the guys on this board will have.

I think this thread should be moved to the Ready Line as although I know you are asking about laws specific to the UK I don't think that this is what this forum is really for and you will probably get a better response in the main forum anyway mate.

Cheers

Darren

Just do it :) are you building it for display ???? if so, whos going to know ???? its not like your going to be taking it to cons or anything (are you  ) plus steel builds are too bloody heavy for that sort of thing  minus shrouds (which wont make any difference)mine weighs in at 15Lb

You better get on with it though, Octobers ony a couple of weeks away

As a moderator of this forum I feel it's my duty to point out that this is a public forum - you don't have to be a member here to view the posts.

To that end I should stress of course that individual members are responsible for their own actions.

I would recommend that members seek legal advice before undertaking any work like this as we wouldn't want to see anyone getting into trouble.

Good shout Harry, already contacted my solicitor who has told me 'he'll get back to me on it'...

I wont have to worry stonedog7563, I'm a skirmisher so I'll be covered for 'manufacture' of a RIF. It'll be mainly for display, but I'm sure it'll turn up at a few events at some point.

Could be it might have to go to a proofing house again, after all the chopping and sawing, they end up more deactivated than they started off as.

Depending on the level of deactivation, combining the two shouldn't be an issue. Don't guys in the UK 501st do much the same thing with Sterling parts sets?

Was this the deactivated M870 that had a long piece cut out of the bottom of the barrel?
