The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What do you guys do to keep your leg armor where it's supposed to be? I'm gonna make my first official combat drop tomorrow and I want to know what everyone does to keep their leg armor from slipping.

Well, there's a couple ways...

1) Tighten the webbing down so much it cuts off the circulation to your legs. :)

2) At one time I used a set of velcro boot top cuffs. I glued hook velcro inside the bottom, front edge of my shin guards, and then sewed fuzzy velcro in a loop with a bit of hook on the inside. I also added 4 grommets and laced the boot tops into my boots, then just pulled the excess fuzzy velcro over the top of the grommets , hiding them and locking the velcro in place. Shin guards never moved after that. :)

Some people also pull the guards high enough so they "ride" the top of your boot top.

Just a couple suggestions. :)

Some hotglue on the inside, tamp it down with a cold wet finger, and you're good to go :)

How "sticky" is that stuff? Any danger of it shedding onto your BDU trousers? I like the idea, but I'd hate to have to buy new trousers after using it.

If it the stuff I'm thinking of, not very. I use a cream version that is designed to go under carpets a lot and never had a problem.

Would I be able to find that at a fabric or hardware store?

The grip mat is used to line tool box drawers, kitchen drawers etc.
you can get it at Lowes and places like that.

It's pretty grippy Russ, and I don't think it would shed easily and if it did it would just be little bits of rubber that wouldn't mark any fabric.

It's cheap enough to have a test with, your local DIY depot will probably stock it.

Awesome, guys. You're the best. The best of the best. Best of the best of the bestest best.

Long story short... you guys rock.

Slightly off-topic, but... is this doo-dad in the picture below used for the shoulder lamp? Where do I place it?

Yes it is. It goes on the lamp box. I can't post a photo at the moment, hopefully someone else will or I'll do it later.

The easiest way to keep your shin guards up is to replace the fastex buckle with a cam buckle. You just slide the webbing through it, and push the lever down. Done. No mess, no fuss, no moving around. It's what we used on set for Dropzone Copernicus and I loved it!!

You can get them at most camping supply places, I got mine at REI.

I found a large amount of those Grip Mat rolls at Wal-Mart.
EDIT: Just checked my roll. It's a bit different. It's made by Duck and its called Easy Liner. It'll hold on well on BDU's, but its not sticky at all. :D

There's one type with an adhesive backing and one without.

I'm thinking the reason they are falling down is maybe the shin armor is too short. Just a guess

This problem is common for us long legged folk. My first gen Spat shin armor was a wee bit on the short side for me. :)

The craptastic replacements I got from a third party were only marginally better, about 1" or so in length. Spat's new ones are pretty slick. Much longer.

Ah, but those aren't screen accurate are they? ;)

Well, for DZC I suppose they are.

The latest shin guards from Spat are... Spatastic! 3 straps and a bunch of stopgaps to keep it from slipping down on me. And i'm long legged.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I went out today and bought some of that rubber padding stuff for toolboxes at Lowes. Instead of hot glue or anything else, I just cut a large section of the roll, folded it over a few times and it stays on great! Pictures from my first combat drop to come (in an entirely new thread, of course).
