I'm not a marine corps DI and I never will be... but I certainly play a colonial marine DI and I try to make it look as good as possible. Anubian told me today that I should untuck my pants (actually, they're not tucked, they're bloused) from my boots.... he said it didn't look good. I based this look on GySgt Hartman from Full Metal Jacket... I assumed this was the proper look. Honestly, I think it looks great. Any marines want to give the scoop? Anyone's opinion is appreciated. |

I'm no expert but wouldn't you wear them untucked and with black boots, same as Gorman when he visits Ripley with Burke? BDU legs would be tucked, but not drill trousers (if that's what they're called). [EDIT]: Like this. Harry |

Since I was the scumbag doing the pushups, I suppose I should add to this thread. I believe Dom has the right idea using jungle boots. Wearing black boots would look too " modern" or "today's" look. The jungle boot (or as I like to called them "JB's") definitely makes that connection from the field/BDU/battle dress uniform to an instructor in an authoritative position ~respect my authorita~ I say JB's all the way with them bloused or "tucked". I would say untuck, only time a drill instr. had his BDUs tucked are usually on the PT Field. Other then that hes(GySgt Hartman) had them untucked in the barracks as what your wearing with the dress shirt, untucked is the right look. |

I remember something in WW2 about only paratroopers or troopers who had passed jump trraining to wear jumpboots and have their trousers bloused. Maybe we could use it as the same for being on a combat drop? |

Dom here's my logic... It's 200 years from now. It's a totally fictional military organization. They put army dress rank on their Marine camouflage BDUs. They don't salute. They put graffitti on their armour. A SFC is credited as a Msgt. 
There is no right or wrong here- do what you want to do! 
If you think they look good bloused, leave 'em. If you think it would look better un-bloused, then un-blouse 'em. But I don't think accuracy can really play into this.
However if you are truly looking for a yes or no answer from me- I'd have to say un-bloused. Having watched FMJ last night, the only time Hartman has his pants bloused is on the PT field as Eagleskull said. |

From a former Marine (Me). Gorman's Dress pant's were not bloused because in dress uniform you wear shoe's. While in BDU's your trouser's should be bloused, as per regulation's. |

The following opinion is based purely on aesthetics rather than accuracy: I like them exactly how Dom had them. Jungle Boots, bloused, giving Airborne the attention he deserves.

To answer the question of blouse vs tucked - Blousing one's trousers requires an elastic (aka Trouser Blousers, boot bands, boot straps, blousing bands) around one lower leg and to tuck back the pant leg under the elastic... creating the illusion of your pant leg being tucked in your boot... which can be uncomfortable. There's no difference between tucked and bloused. As for the Airborne look, the Airborne wear's their Jump boots in uniform so as to Blouse them. All branches boluse their boots while in BDU's. |

I like untucked for drill.
Personally with big, mirror-shine studded boots! But the jungle boots work excellently for the USCM look!
