The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I don't believe the smart-gun IR sight has ever been identified?

I was just wondering if anyone had considered that the IR sight might also be a motorcycle part- a footrest. Just a thought. :)

It's actually a custom-made piece, one of several on the prop. The flash hider, drum mag cover, trigger clevis, and trigger handle guard are a couple more examples. At least the gun was mostly made from "found parts" aside from a few pieces... don't even get me started on the damn headset, on the other hand :P

That image does look fairly close though, hehe. Good spotting.

Couple of 'hints'...sort of.

Look at 'coring bits' for the flash hider, there are hundreds of different brands and designs, and the ones used 'back then' likley looked different than the ones you see now.
Modern Core bits:

As for the Trigger clevis or the actual tube the rod runs through, look around for spigot type rifle grenade launchers, they have a very similar size and shape. People assume it's larger than it is but it's only about 7 inches long by 7/8 inch at the most.

Now...go hit those junk shops!

The walls seem pretty thin and angular to be solid rubber and it looks like it has a square piece (with the lens in the middle) inserted into it. I think I have another pic somewhere with a decent front view - I'll see if I can track it down.
