Does anyone know if a M40 round is the same size as a M203 round? Or know what the dia. is on both of them? Thanks, Painkiller |

Isn't it the same diameter as a 12 gauge shotgun round? At any rate it's mentioned as a 30mm pump action grenade launcher in the film. EDIT- The M203 is 40mm. |

As an ex-203 gunner, the round is 40mm, and a lot of fun... |

30mm is 1.18 inches. The standard 12 ga round is around 3/4" (give or take 1/8" or so...) so definately smaller than the fantasy 30mm specified by James Cameron. Russ |

I think Dom made one using the 30mm diameter line as a starting reference. The end result was this gigantic M40 grenade! Looked about the same size as a 203 round! So the M40 may not be 30mm- but the buttcap with the brass primer that resembles a shotgun round is the same dimensions as an actual shotgun round, yes? Where in the hell is Tom when we need him?! |

I would imagine it is almost exactly the same dimensions as a shotgun round, seeing as how they were shown being chambered into what we know to be a Remington 870 action. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, just a guess there. |

The rim of a 12ga shell is 7/8", which is about 22.25mm. The diameter of the shell is 3/4", which is a little over 19mm. Here's a comparison shot with a Dean O grenade:

I'm not sure if that's an artillery simulator round, but it's considerably longer than the HE/HEDP grenades. The standard M203 grenade has a 46mm case, with a 40mm projectile. Here is a photo of an HEDP round, HE, and a white star parachute flare (flares are lower pressure/velocity, hence the even shorter case).

You, sir, have excellent taste in shotguns. (I'll give you three guesses what I shoot and the first two don't count xD) |
