Thanks for doing this Paul. I can bet you that if you called again and spoke to someone different they'd give you a different answer. Did he give any reason why we do not class as a re-enactment or theatrical group? Harry |

Shouldn't that be "don't try replacing them with anything made after the act comes into force"? Harry |

Time to perform the 'colony sweep' at every expo? |

No worries, I was really correcting them, not you. Harry |

That is mildly annoying news!! ![]() Andy ![]() So who is doing the first run of 'USCM Pink Tickling Sticks' then, or do we think the Home Office will try to ban tickling and laughter as well? So when is the Oxygen tax coming in then? Andy |

Cheer`s Paul & as Harry said, speak to someone else within the HO & something different would be said. On the "Not a Re-Enactment Group" as we don`t do scripted runs. Sorry that`s bull. I`ve got around 15-20 years now in Medieval & 16th Century Re-enactment & yes some shows are done with a fair bit of rehersal for entertainment purposes. Though I`ve done plenty of shows where they are truely off the bat & also purely (Boring as hell) Living History too. So I say just do scripted scenes from the Movie, then we should have the theatrical cover in that respect. Though going back to Re-enactment,just look at the increase in Modern groups, some cutting edge with kit around the world. So having a re-enactment group that is from the slight future, should also fit in there too IMHO. Still this is going to be an interesting topic with such a GREY area really. It`s truely going to be a case by case situation with each Con/show I think. What with the shows & also the local Bobbies. Jason |

Thanks for the news although it comes as no surprise to me. The government are blinkered fools. Can this info be posted on the "UK bans..." thread on the RPF? Mark ![]() |

All right, we've got seven canisters of CN-20... I say we roll them in there and nerve gas the whole *fudging* nest. ![]() (That's the office building of the UK Home Office, by the way.) On a serious note, I'm sick of this ill thought out legislation, being both a Colonial Marine equipment collector and an Airsofter, among other things. First they almost destroy shooting sports, then they constantly vilify gaming and other alternative culture, then destroy the hobbies of various collectors... It's as if the UK wants me to emigrate. I didn't think I smelled that bad! P.S. - If you never hear from me again, it's because the wardens of the Panopticon have taken me away for the CN-20 comment... |

Er as Axeman said...what a load of bull****...since when has the Home Office the authority to designate what consitututes as 're-enactment'? None at all! I would advise that the UKCM get on the "Call To Arms" international re-enactors lisiting ASAP. This would not only show the serious intention of the group, but would also help to establish them in the appropriate community. Secondly, draw up a constitution and organisation intent, if you plan to be a display team, then you need to clarify exactly what this is. Other non-historical groups that do futuristic/fantasy themes have been present on this directory for years, and have been seen at UK events. My oldest directory dates from 2001, and there are such groups listed. As Axeman said, anyone who attends the mil events in Kent will have noticed the increase in persons representing modern military/police units. In fact a UKCM presence at http://www.thewarandpeaceshow.com or http://www.military-odyssey.fsnet.co.uk ... splay.html might go a long way to prove the point. Especially if the media pick up on it. The replies I have recieved in the past from the Home Office regarding the VCR in regards to film/tv/stage work have been conflictory and just proves that they will say anything to cover themselves and have absolutely NO clue as to what they are talking about. When it comes dome to the nitty gritty, I am assured by police and other reliable sources, that if anyone is arrested and charged, the police will have to prove in court, beyond any doubt, that criminal intent was planned. PM me for any info. |
