The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Will anyone be selling the correct BDU's at Dragon Con?
I have never been there so I don't know if they have dealers?
Thanks

There is a dealer room, but there won't be anyone selling BDU's.

Best "Aliens" stuff you might be able to find at D*con are... patches, resin Vp-70 kits, resin helmet cam kits, and maybe a plush facehugger or chestburster.

Speaking of BDU's, I was wondering, are there any camo types other than safariflage that would be acceptable, or is it pretty loose?

We don't have any "rules" as far as correctness goes...

These days you can find a decent pair of camo pants at places like WalMart that are pretty close to the screen colours (maybe not so much the squeezed pattern).

It's finding a matching top that is hard.

British desert DPM pattern is ok. Just about any pattern that has more light brown tones rather than green/black.

Safariflage works well and weathers well too.
But MAA's are the most accurate

But really, any camo you are happy with will work.
No ridiculing here......not in public anyway ;)

Highly unlikely. DragonCon is where fellow Marines go fully loaded out to show off their gear, not shop for it -- plain and simple. Oh sure... you might find an overpriced MR Motion Tracker, or perhaps spot a deal and pick up an extra sidearm -- like several of us did back in 2005 with those $15 VP-70's -- but don't go with any expectations of finding BDU's, let alone accurate ones.

Safariflage used to be an acceptable non-canon substitute, but those caches have all but dried up -- especially the shirts.

As the Sarge mentioned, Wal-Mart has had some of the closest off-the-shelf matches I've seen in pants...

...of which either the left or center sample will do. Add yourself a "Peace Through Superior Firepower" or an OD green shirt and you can get by.

Ideally, shop early and pick up a set of MAA's BDU's. I can personally vouch for 'em -- they simply cannot be beat for accuracy and price. I'll be wearing mine to DragonCon, so please feel free to walk up to me and touch them if you'd like. ;)

I was thinking of going the dyed urban-camo direction, anyone else actually try that before?

I hear Polish desert camo is pretty nice... unfortunately, when they appear on eBay they go quickly. Plus I think a lot of airsofters are starting to use it to, so there's competition.

Spat had a tutorial about taking a set of urban camo BDUs and mixing particular Rit-dye colours for the desired effect. Not sure if anyone here has tried it yet.

Indeed! It is a nice alternative! Too bad about it being highly sought after.

PVB Unfortunately they are now only available on the second-hand market but they do crop up now and again.
