Right now I'm busy with my fan fiction, wargaming models and building a rotary blaster cannon for the Rebel Legion but for some reason I've decided that I need to add yet another project. In this case I'm trying to build a smart gun, largely out of plastic.
I'll be using the same general method that I've used before for a Hoth rifle for a Star Wars costume that used a core of plastic pipe with parts added to them.
Here is the core I've built:


I also have the flash hider. I'm drilling holes by hand so the placement of some is a bit wonky but hopefully you'll have to get clsoe to notice that:

This is made from two pieces of plastic pipe plus a strip of thin plasticard at the back and bits of ribbon cable for the textured bands.

Nice! Hardest bit is the flash hider, so you're 75% finished already, I reckon!

I've managed to do some work on the barrel and fore end.

Latest update. I've done more on the fore end and some bits. I also have the grips I need and a bike lever.

Lookin good! what material are you using for the heat shroud?

It's just stryene sheet (plasticard). I've been using 2mm/80thou thick.

It'd been slow going for the past couple of weeks but I have been able to work on the receiver and the front grip assembly.

LAtes update. Ive done some more work on the receiver and mounted it as well as working on the mount for the trigger bar.

Thanks. I'm taking measuements from the 3d printed smart gun I have. Unfortunately on that the guard below the rear grip has proven to be very fragile because of the way it is printed. I want mine to be more durable and hopefully lighter.

Another update. I've added some details to the front section and mounted the trigger bar.

Loving it !

The project looks to be hitting the home stretch now. Really nice.
I can imagine, barring a nose close inspection, this will look nearly indistinguishable from its metal cousin.

Now I need to ask a question.
Does anyone have good images of how the drum magazine mounts?
On my 3d printed gun there's a big solid block on the side of the receiver that the mag basically merges into but I don't know if that's what the prop looks like. I'd like my gun to be more like the prop if possible.

Id look up pics of the MG42 drum since that is what the smartguns were made from. Im sure there are plenty of reference photos of those old German MGs

Yes, I've been doing that too. I just wanted to make sure that nothing had been added.
I've actually found some pretty good images of the Hollywood Collectables Group smart gun also

These took quite a while.


But they fit.

Now just the drum mag and filling before the gun is ready to be painted.
