The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Things have been surprisingly quiet regarding a new Alien film....

On the one hand, it's beneficial as I am going in without any speculation or pre-formed opinion. On the other, I'm shocked that there's barely been a peep about it here.
Either way, I'm going to see it tonight, so fingers crossed for something that at least beats the likes of Covenant.

Sadly things have been quiet here overall for a while now. It's mentioned in this thread.

I've not seen Romulus so I can't comment further on that part.

I expected a lot of talk about it today on here, but since no-one it talking about it I won't say much as I don't want to spoil it.

I will say it is definitely an Alien film. I automatically like it above an average non-Alien related film, as it's an Alien film, and I like to be in that universe, but I am a bit disappointed.

There was a certain thing about it that got more and more ridiculous as it went on. I don't think we have spoiler tags here, so I'll leave it at that unless this becomes an official spoiler thread.

Without spoiling, it has homages to every single movie and game. The set dressings were over the top and some of the scenes really had me in aww with it feeling like alien isolation or aliens fireteam elite. Other scenes were a real throwback to the prior alien films. It really answered the question on what hadley's hope would look like while it was still lively...

I started this thread over at one of my other online haunts:

It has been rather lively. Then again the site has over a million visiters a day.

I haven't seen it yet, but I was talking to a friend who said this feels a lot more like Aliens than a lot of films since then, and that he appreciated it going back to the kind of Alien franchise movie that he loved best.

I saw it tonight, and I really enjoyed it overall. I only had one major complaint about it and I will not talk about it due to spoilers. I'd still give it a solid 8 to 8.5 out of 10 and it's easily the third best Alien movie now. They REALLY nailed that pulse rifle sound and that was freaking awesome. It was subtly different from Aliens, but sounded more bassy and profound.

I think they re recorded the sounds using updated tech, but the same process. In making off vids I have seen it as basically said they tried to get as many original artists back to help work on the project.

Life has been getting in the way a lot, but I do still log in most days.

The film started out great, and the environment was fantastic. Plot was a little wobbly, but I can securely suspend my disbelief with the merest sliver of dental floss so I was able to run with it and really appreciate the setting.
It followed Ridley Scott's usual approach of beginning well, but gradually descending into something a 12-year-old fanboy could have written. It would have remained workable, if not for the repeated references to other Alien works and the blatant highlighting of those references, just to be sure the audience doesn't miss them. You're supposed to hide Easter Eggs where they can barely be seen, not wave them in peoples' faces.

I didn't fall asleep, which is more than can be said for the Assassin's Creed film... but it's more on par with a typical FanFic flick, just with a larger budget. It sits somewhere behind A:Res, in my rating. Better than Prometheus and Covenant, though!!
