Post subject:  Some Hero PR questions..

Hello again!

I'm starting my PR build in late November over a break, and I have a few questions:
I've got most everything right now for an all metal build, but there are a few things I'm missing: The APS 870 and a few parts for my HCG shrouds.

For the 870, is it better to work with the airsoft AOW (is it long enough to be used?) or the longer version? I'm not keen on cutting the barrels on the airsoft unless it's supported by the front block.

For the shrouds, I'm missing all of the screws. I have the counter plate and front plate, but I'm missing the rear mag plate, rear attachment plate, all of the screws for the plates, and most importantly, the two screws connecting the shrouds together. I don't have any measurements for them at the moment as I'm away, but does anyone know the sizes and if they are available anywhere? I plan on reaching out to Matsuo as well and see if he can help.

I might as well get this questions out of the way as well: How have you hero builders mounted your UGL on airsoft thompsons? Is the metal of the front support strong enough to mount it? I have a WE, so it should be a bit stronger than the AEG version.

Thanks all, hopefully I will be making a build post when I get to work. I haven't even cut the SPAS yet!

I've used the aps m870 aow and it's the prefect size. It does have some kurling on the end of the barrel but hopefully it can be filed down smooth. I'm also using the WE tech/cybergun gbb, the spas cage and m870 are attached to where the front thompson grip goes just like the heros and its absolutely fine. I've fitted the metal barrel upgrade now but had the standard one for a good while and that could take the weight fine too!

Heres a pic of my unfinished build with the aps cam870 aow fitted. As you can see it fits perfectly through the front block.

Hope my replys helped!

Very helpful! I saw your build on the fb page. Thanks for the reply! My main concern was the strength of the barrel extension so thanks for confirming that, helps a lot. but it seems like yours and a few others have held up great so far. I believe the US version of the APS has a smooth barrel due to the orange tip which I’ll paint black. Great work on the shrouds!

I used a block to attach the GL to and had a custom (outer) barrel… I’ll have to dig out some pics…

I attached my GL but bolting it right to the same support for the regular thompson front grip. I left it as in tact as I could and even used long bolts with the same thread pitch to use the same holes. I did reinforce the front with a brass 'strap' that was riveted in place to keep the lower bracket from sagging forward.

Hopefully this pic makes all that above make sense.

I also left one of the 'nubs' from the shroud in place and drilled a hole into the SPAS so they fit together, giving another anchor point where the shrouds had a little bite into the cage.

Thanks for the pics! I remember seeing your build a while ago. I'll definitely give the support methods you used for the front extension a go, the WE has a free floating one iirc. I'll make sure to keep you guys updated on a build thread when I get home to start.
