The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm curious to know why you chose blue like the queen and not the brown colour of the Alien Warriors.

Harry

Well in the movie they look blue anyhow thanks to the patented Cameron blue gel he used on every movie back then.. even today if you get a collectable Alien Warrior they are almost always blueish in tone.

No way was I going to paint mine that cockroach brown color. Even at the Stan Winston School they are blueish... The photograph that most people see is tinted brown for some reason... but if you see the Warrior display without tint you can see that it is blueish gray.

It's your amazing Alien build so can paint it however makes you happy.

But sorry I don't think what you have posted above is quite correct, have a look at the Winston school Alien costume photos here -

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19940

Definitely black with the tan highlights.

Those are props from the movie which I said above were painted brown but look blue in the movie. They might have even been painted brown to compensate for Camerons love of blue gels. Maybe the scenes with the Queen didn't use blue gels so they could just paint her blue.

The Stand Winston Studio display was made AFTER the movie and is most certainly painted blue as I even provided a picture of it's true color. That one is made for display in his display room and was never ment to be used in a movie.

EDIT: rereading my post above it might not be clear but I am not disputing the alien warriors from the film were painted brown... I am saying the colored blue gel lights that James Cameron used made them look blue and that is the color they always intended them to be (probably) the brown color might have been used to keep them from looking too blue under the blue tinted lights.

I can see by the silence you guys aren't convinced the brown color was just to make them look right under the cinematic lighting of Cameron... so here is a photo of the Alien made for Stan Winston studios straight from the Stan Winston Studio book... it has a giant fold out of his gallery.

You can see the Alien that Stan wanted for his gallery is not even remotely brown... in fact his leans heavy into green.

I like the blue but I am adding a green tint to mine as well.

I'm calling the paint job on the head done... did some dry brushing silver and some finally touches.. Now I have to permanently attach the jaw and blend that in.. and gloss coat it. Lips will be a separate project.

Looks like you are rounding third base on this.
Very well done, and looks as nice as any professionally made Xeno statue out there.

Question for ya'... How did you create the clear mouth tendons?

My uninformed guess is silicone formed into shape, then attached after dry(?)

Thank you sir... that is thermal plastic called clear Worbla or Transpa art. You heat it up it gets soft and cools to be hard again...

The Alien will be done this week... hopefully hanging back up on the ceiling by this weekend

She is done... you might notice some of the gaps in joints aren't quite closed yet... I need a deeper socket to tighten those up... but at least it is up there... hopefully never to come down! lol

Friend of mine came over to help install it so I wouldn't drop any parts like last time... 2 years of work..

Great detail. Great perseverance.
From a PVC frame, to a finished collector statue, in 24 months.
Great job.

This build was a treat to watch, from start to finish.

When do you start taking commissions?
