The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

A good friend of mine passed along a GlideCam rig and so I decided it was time to attempt a SmartGun costume.

I bought a barrel shroud from an MG42 as well as a vintage drum.

I am using some 3D printed elements as well to finish it, but reinforced with metal.

I made two batteries (or whatever they are), one from a resin cast and one from a spare multi-barrel toy. I thought the plastic one would be lighter but by the time I had puttied up the gaps they really aren't that different in weight. I also picked up the motorcycle switch.

I have more elements inbound, but I wanted to start documenting things here.

I have a came-tv IV vest. If you need reference photos on how matty did the mods, let me know.

I have to thank Septic, Bacta Baby, BigbisonT, 577_ops and Matty for their help getting me this far. From build tutorials to answering really specific questions about fit and placement, this community has been so generous.
Knoxville-joker I would be very interested to see how he joined the arm to the gun. I'll post a photo of my own attachment dilemma too.

Matty offered/offers(?) the correct C-shaped Adapter that connects the Gun with the L-shaped arm part.

The c-shape is on the inner side (=towards the operator).
Top: Connection to the range visor.
Inner side: Screw to connect the l-Shaped adapter
Bottom side: Holds/connects to the counter-weight

Two references included to get the idea across.
The two parts approach is the easy one.
The one part approach plus welding is the "better" and more accurate one.

Would be interesting to see how others connected the chest plate to the operator's vest.

This is the attachment point on my arm, I need to figure out a method for allowing the SG to pivot. Any suggestions?

Also, because my barrel shroud was cut down I have a gap between it and the 3D printed back. Anybody have a photo from this angle showing what I am missing? I plan to build out in metal to bridge the gap and reinforce the whole thing. A metal rod is running through as well to support it from muzzle to handle.

As an alternative to the Beyerdynamic headset I am using a Shure SM10 (thanks to Pete Gillam for the tip).

I have some broken ends from a Mars Attacks repro of the boom mic, so I am modifying it to look more screen accurate. Once the back end is on I think it will look the part.

Sorry, thought mine was an original, but it's actual from the MARS run years ago ...
I'll check my SG headset too, as I know that's had some of the MARS bits replaced with real parts (just can't remember which bits).

Thank you Septic! I pilfered these bits off my Marine helmet so I want to build up a replacement for that ASAP. These measurements will really help!

While I wait on some parts for the SG, I began building the headset. I started with a Spat camera housing, but removed the edge and cut off the back section.

Once I had the T28 and other components I built up the back section with PVC, two part epoxy and plastic parts (a couple Warhammer greeblies in there). I added a green LED to the top hole in the T28 housing, as this is what appears to be in the auction photos of the Drake headset.

I was able to find the vintage Transformers parts, as well as the Vivitar flash disc. Thanks to Bigbisont, Dropshipbob and Septic for helping with parts!

The Lemo connector arrived too, and waiting on delivery of some Neutrik connectors soon.

Just out of interest, what is this part here? I didn't know if someone / you had identified it.

I think it's from the ring-flash assembly.

Hey Space Jockey!
Mine is a two part resin cast I got from Septic. I haven't seen it identified in other build threads, sadly.

These guys arrived just now. I will paint the silver parts black and wire it up!

Thanks rob343428!

I cut down the Megatron piece to go in the rectangular cutout on the front of the eye piece. What a pain that was...

I also added trim to the eye cup. I had a length of rubber cable from the Lemo connector that actually fit quite well. The video screen has five coats of gloss clear coat on it so there's a nice shine.

Test fitting the headset. I need to add the foam pad to the cheek guard and do a little weathering, but this is really close to being complete.

Looks better than mine. Though I strove for full on functionality. You pushed me to order the cap and get it fully wearable. So thanks for that.
