Post subject:  Bishop's Uplink Computer Terminal
Hey peeps,
Just wondering if anyone had any alternate pictures of Bishop's computer terminal that he used at the uplink tower when connecting to the USS Sulaco? Wouldn't mind getting a more front view of it if anyone has these kind of images at all? Would be appreciated.

Nice clear shot.

I think it was mentioned somewhere else, but worth repeating here; the 'joystick' is a Realistic Radio Shack Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone 33-1065, and there's a few of these on ebay for not too much $$.

Interesting to see the [panel mount?] speaker wire terminal blocks.

As for the keyboard ... ?

I found this on line many years back. It was taken at the museum at Alien War London when it was exhibited there.

I see car fuses, random red LEDs, audio cassettes, hi-fi loudspeaker terminals, possibly some sort of LED displays and twist-lock connectors (the name of which esacpes me for now).

Maybe Festo connectors? Those a re used for tubing (and it looks like they used tubing for the "wire") so that seems plausible. The ones we have are seven or eight hose connections with a threaded lock ring; those appear to be bayonet lock rings on them. But at least a place to start looking.

And I think someone over at RPF built one of these not too long ago... Maybe I'm misremembering but I think so...

The fibre connector looks very similar to a couple of connectors I have with the serial number of ITTC 0947 KPT06F16-26S or AMPHENOL RJF 6M B 14 20

This might sound like a silly observation… but have they taken a small briefcase and covered it in Dutch sleeping mat? The texture of the pattern on the material on the outside looks familiar. It looks to have been cut around the ‘brass’ effect closure clasps. I may be utterly mistaken… are there any better screen grabs from where they open up the tunnel, Bishop puts the box in, climbs in, Vasquez hands him a VP70, he hands it back and then starts crawling and they seal it back up…?

I don’t think the pattern is the same mate, the case has ribs

The handle reminds me of a vintage "Platt" brand case handle.
The whole thing resembles the Platt vintage travel bar and/ or travel coffee cases.

Perhaps with the handle relocated to the front (?)
When looking closely, it does appear there is a seam line between the handle and the case.
Also, looking at the top left corner of the handle attachment, it appears to be on top of one of the ribs.

I can't say what's on it (Bobby Vinton perhaps?) but it is for certain a type-II cassette; smoked shell, not a solid black one. And it has a larger label, like the early TDK D tapes, but, as a consumer of TDK, I can also confirm it's not a TDK tape. The record tabs are intact, and the openings adjacent to the tabs indicate it is a type-II. (Type IV has another set of "notches" toward the center; type I has no opening adjacent to the tabs)

Probably something low-cost, but being type-II not the "three for a buck" bags at the gas station...
