The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey peeps,
Being a computer nerd I've always been interested in the different consoles / computer units plotted around on LV-426 in the Operations room and the Med Labs. Has anyone been able to identify these console at all? This is a bit of a curiousity thing on my part and maybe a build in the works if I find space XD.

Also I was wondering if anyones been able to identify the controller used for the colony map in operations? Would defo like to build one if somone knows the parts used or if its something I can buy straight up.

Thanks in advance :)

P.S
Sorry for all the images. I hope this many was ok to add?

I assumed the large display was a light table or projection TV set on its back. But I don’t know for sure.

These threads don't go into those items specifically, but do relate to the various computer monitors and set dressings.

Hey,

I was actually asking about the controller used for the colony map, not the map itself XD

The remote on the table looks a *bit* like a remote control for an overhead crane. It does seem to have an overabundance of buttons for that purpose however.

Possible lead...

The map table control unit in the first picture looks quite similar to a Control Display Unit (CDU) of an aircraft:

The joystick seems to be added later in place of the display.

Glad I started the board now. I like preserving as many images as possible for reference :)

I think it's just a graphic intended for the background predominantly, and not to be studied in depth.

Lok at the labels on there- some make no sense at all...

The attachment Data Table Map.jpg is no longer available

So I downloaded this image and put it into photoshop to clean it up a bit and add where I could. Some of the map did show around the edges in the darker sections so I tried to bring them forward and fill in where I could. This is what I ended up with. I hope you peeps like it :)

As Stefan said, i think you're looking for a vintage Cdu / Fmc with a joystick they stuck over the screen.

Having been on forums since the beginning days of the internet, file preservation is the biggest headache

Could that screen be from the Vulcan they salvaged the APC parts from?

My first thought lol :D

I had a look round and the Vulcan is very old school, big dials and analog controls. That said i did find a picture of a 'something' that had been retro fitted and isn't normal there on the others.

Moosh did some excellent work a few years back figuring out where everything was on that map… it’s incredibly ‘busy’…
