The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

OK, placement fixed. I sourced a local windscreen for my microphone. I then placed to my larynx and it gets darn close sound wise. The breathing sound is more or less eliminated.

I will just have to tape to my throat area with medical tape.

I will just say breaking it in has made for a fun time at work

Thanks. That is the author of that book taking the photo. He sold out of that book at the convention after posting to his social media. I will be doing a book report in this getup from the working joe's perspective and posting that.

Thanks. The only issue I have to sort now is sound isolation for external noise.

Some shots of my son as a Working Joe (specifically Davis from Aliens Defiance). We misplaced his gloves before the convention sadly.

OK, I have to go a different route for the voice changer. The bonnet I thought I would use has built-in microphones and I need an external microphone.

https://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2017/ ... y-pi-zero/

Now just to get my hands on a pi zero w and not pay an arm and a leg.

OK, I finally managed to get a raspberry pi, finally for less than 30. I am in the process of trying to scrounge a few bits to start the configuration. I have a feeling the raspberry pi may be a more reliable setup if I can get the microphone piece to work proper.

I would also add that the raspberry pi imager utility has made configuring sd cards stupid simple compared to the royal PITA configuring things used to be years ago.

OK, found a reference piece for a voice changer

https://steamcommunity.com/app/214490/d ... 657298769/

The voxal profile has these settings:
3band equalizer
gain 100hz 12db
gain 900hz -46db
gain 2500hz 12 db

voice pitch shifter
50%

amplify
gain percentage 400%

distortion
degree 78%
level -10db

compressor:
threshold -10db ratio 1.00 attack time 100ms limit 4db release time 500ms

I will need to test these settings that I, "think," I translated to rec settings. man(manual) pages are great for the infinite options some of the more powerful linux commands have.

sleep 0.3|play "| sleep 0.2 |rec -d pitch -50 equalizer 100 50 12 equalizer 900 50 -46 equalizer 2500 50 12 gain +120 tempo 0.78 compand 0.1,0.5 1:-10"

But I am coming to a conclusion I may have to upgrade to a raspberry pi 4 instead of a zero wh. the processing delays indicate I may be taxing things a bit too much. I could try over clocking things slightly.

The base commands are:
arecord --format=S16_LE --rate=16000 | aplay --format=S16_LE --rate=16000 (another I checked to verify things)
play "|rec -d pitch -300" (one I used)

the rec man page is:
https://linux.die.net/man/1/rec

Nice find on the suit, Joker. How did you find the sizing (what you ordered vs the size you normally wear)?

I got with generally the largest they have. I am bulky and like the extra movement ability.

I am getting closer on the voice changer. It would just help to talk to a sound engineer on how they did the voice.

I will probably settle on the pi 4. redoing the arduino is going to take more than a little while.

This is getting closer to the joe sound.
sleep 0.2|play "| sleep 0.4 |rec -d pitch -350 equalizer 100 50 12 equalizer 900 50 -46 equalizer 2500 50 12 gain 5 tempo 0.68 compand 0.1,0.5 1:-10 vol 0.8 treble 0.6 phaser 0.6 0.66 3 0.6 2 -t"

I would note the new lavalier microphone appears to be less prone to interference...

OK, Just for a trial run I got things working with a startup script

I got a Pi 4 and made some progress

in /boot I made file voice.sh. I put the file there as the location is accessible from another device when pulling the SD card in case updates are needed or scripts break.

This contains:
#!/bin/bash
sleep 5
sox -d -b 8 -c 1 -d pitch -500 tempo 0.75 vol 1 treble 0.65 bass -9 gain 5 > /dev/null
sleep 5

To invoke it at startup I add these lines to /etc/rc.local
sleep 0.3
sh /boot/voice.sh &
sleep 0.3

And to make sure that the script run we must make it executable by all users with:
chmod +x /boot/voice.sh
