The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Is it me, or is the ‘Wey-Yu’ influence a bit misinterpreted and a tad overdone these days?

‘The Company’ has a heavy influence in ALIEN but is more heavily branded in ALIENS…

However… there is NO clear crossover in branding between the military (USCM) and Weyland Yutani in the 1986 film (to my recollection). There’s no obvious WY branding on any USCM kit or in view in the SULACO, sign written on the SULACO or any of the drop ships or the APC.

The Pulse Rifle was branded ARMAT… presumably in early Expanded Universe material…

It’s a great pity that a lot of fan based t shirts and so on now seem to overkill the WY links to the USCM… I attach a picture of a t shirt design as a classic example. Wrong text for SULACO combined with WY branding from ALIEN.

I wish i had saved the research i did on logo history as skynet(satellite contractor) and northrup grumen had some eerily similar logos.

The new extended universe (see the Alien RPG from Free League) takes the W-Y overkill to such an absurd level that it's not even realistic anymore.

It's gotten so bad that I've given up on "canon" and am sticking to writing Alien fanfiction that's more grounded in reality. The guy who wrote the RPG should not be in charge of what is and isn't canon, especially since he's incapable of doing research. He and his new Prometheus-centric canon can go sit on a cactus and stay there for all I care.

As someone who loves Weylan(d)-Yutani, I completely agree with the OP. I was so happy when Alien Isolation introduced Seegson and other authors and artists began to incorporate it. The RPG brings in a few from the comics etc. and helps expand people's ideas of the "world" these stories take place in. W-Y may be powerful, but they are by no means the sole manufacturer of goods. Personally I think the RPG has helped, not hindered this effort.

Yes indeed…

WY are far from the manufacturer of all goods. The NOSTROMO is a WY ship on a WY contract diverted by WY using a clause in the WY employment contract and likely to be premeditated with Ash planted in the crew.

The colony on LV426 is a WY corporate venture and Burke states WY manufactures the APS.

They are powerful. But they aren’t to be confused with OCP in ROBOCOP… I just think a lot of people have taken it and run with it a bit too far now… perhaps it is only a select few enthusiasts (many of those here) who really ‘get’ it.

Finally someone said it ilovethecorps. I imagined it was like Amazon. lots of parallels there. If bezos wanted to send a rag tag group of expendable US troops to get face huggered so they could sell military tech, he easily would, I think wey-yu just had the power, but they werent the military. it would be like if a huge company wanted enforce some new experimental product and the govt made so much money that they used the military to do it. Doesnt mean Wey-yu made pulse rifles and military gear. They just sucked money out of the peple who were owned by the govt, so they worked together. I'll add that hate Amazon more they wey-Yu, theyre technically more evil.
