I did this little project a while back. Been kind of sidetracked lately and haven't posted the details. Some may have noticed the prototypes in the PX (still available, btw!...)
So anyways, some time ago, a pal of mine from the NECA figure customizing community came to me with this idea. He was used to dealing with plastic on smaller scales and didn't have any costuming experience, but had this idea for a shirt. It would seem he had been having some online exchanges with Cynthia Scott. I don't know any of the details on that side of it, but he asked if he could commission a replica of Dietrich's T-shirt (the one she wore under her uniform). The plan was to send the shirt to Cynthia Scott herself!
The guy has hooked me up plenty of times for scale parts in the past, and the idea sounded so cool that I assured him no payment was necessary and I was on the job! Just find out her size.
For the base shirt, I felt some vintage real-deal military shirts would be better than a modern tee and trying to color match. Luckily she was a size small (easiest to find vintage military in that size) and I quickly found some "new 'old stock'" of unopened Army undershirt 2-packss. After all, I can't give Cynthia a shirt with 30 year old pit-stains in it!
Next up were her custom emblems. The original medic cross and "no entry" sign over here heart appear to have simply been red marker. While certainly accurate, the idea of taking a red sharpie to the shirt seemed a bit sloppy to me. I decided to get a roll of iron-on vinyl and hand cut the emblems. That would keep its improvised/hand-made charm, but look much cleaner and hopefully be longer lasting.
Since it was a 2-pack, I figured I would go ahead and make two, keeping one for myself. Unfortunately I kind of forgot how clothing works. While my proportions on the back cross looked great as the T-shirt lay flat on a table, I realized that a shirt wrapped around a 3D object (like a mannequin or human body) brought the sides in. The cross was too large to be perfectly accurate, and perfect accuracy was my goal!

So I ordered another 2-pack and tried again!
The second batch turned out much better and here it is. Def was a fun project.
