The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Progress on the Grid laptop, need to print out the labels on glossy photo paper, finish the back panel and edit the video.

Made up a little pouch to hold my locator and printed proper labels for the Grid laptop. Might add texture paint to the Grid, make it look more realistic/retro :).

Used my laser engraver to prototype some dog tags, looks like I'll need to apply for a service number soon and not use Hudson's! Will do another batch with a more correct font and my number when I get it :).

Added a weyland yutani logo to an old laptop bag which was a perfect fit for the Grid laptop.

Made up a hack kit inspired by Hudson's. Made from the same material I've had for my other pouches. Used some thin plastic sheet to attach the items to. Velcro holds the sheet to the pouch. All items were found in the 'pile', I printed a pic of a mini keyboard and stuck that to some more plastic sheet. Will add some more hand written details to the outside.

Yay, received my spoonflower sample!

Here is a pic with it on brand new MultiCam. Sample 8"X8", photo taken indoors under fluro light. Anyone able to tell me how it looks scale and colour wise?

nice grid. There are write ups here on how to make it functional with more modern stuff, not recommended if you are uncomfortable hardware hacking. Nice setup as well.

I'll post up a pic here of my Spoonflower swatch (admittedly from years ago), next to my MAA BDUs.
Mine looks a little different to your sample ... was yours this one - https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/880468-sci-fi-alien-marine-camo-by-ricraynor?

No I didn't like the look of that one. I did a trace of the pic from Harry Harris' site and took an average of the colour in each section, then played around with the overall brightness.

Having another look at pics of the camo this does look very bright and clean, but I think the pattern can always be dirtied up and faded some.

The sample pic and the pic before final clean up. I traced each piece onto a different layer so I could turn them on and off and adjust colours.

I have ordered 4 meters of custom printed material from a local supplier. Price was better than Spoonflower and delivery should be pretty quick. I made an alteration to the colours of my sample, will see how it ends up!

In the meantime I'm making a sewing pattern, could not find anything useful online and threw out a basic pattern I had many years ago. So I'm copying some BDUs I've got and just going with basic pockets and construction.

Also did a test of Carter Burkes phone card. Need to work on the fonts and spacings and play around with the laser engraver settings more.

Hey, hey! I am building a replica of the VidCom from Ripley's apartment and can tell you that all the previous attempts at Burke's card are oversized. I would love to work with you to get the dimensions correct (and then buy some from you!).

The slot where the card goes is narrower than folks had assumed.

Ah interesting! Was just looking through your thread and see the apricot computer etc. Brilliant stuff!

Happy to do some cards for you. My laser is only an engraver, so I'm engraving the outline, cutting on the bandsaw and then sanding to final dimension. These ones were done around business card size at 93mm X 43mm.

I measured, and the width needs to be 38 mm. As long as the length is proportional it's all good.

You’ve got balls for attempting to sew your own BDU’s! Can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Yes, if I go quiet for a while you know it hasn't gone well!

Picked up an overlocker/serger yesterday, was half price :). Fabric will be here in the next couple of days.

4 metres of material arrived today!

2nd pic show it with my Spoonflower sample, new Multicam and near new Auscam. I went a bit darker with the colour selection, I figure it's easier to take colour away than add it :D.

One more note on the business card: the WY logo is quite different than the one we see on signage etc. in the film. It his a much taller profile.

Not saying it isn't taller, but the quite accute angle that card is viewed at, will compress it somewhat. Making it seem taller and less wide.

Actually it is almost fully face on. Here is the standard repro to show how different they are.
