The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just watched the M40 grenade vid. Very nice man! What are you using for caps?

Cheers Bacta and Septic!

That cap was turned from a solid piece of cast polyurethane. If I do a pour and have excess I pour it into some taped up PVC pipe, it then becomes stock for the lathe :)

That was my solution too. I guess I don't need to do a run of these now that they're popping up everywhere on eBay, lol.

Made up this Hick's (ish) shotgun from a toy. I was going to use the toy as reference for a pulse rifle build but decided to use it for this instead. The stock unscrewed and I attached a cast grip with aluminium plates. The rear area above the grip was filled and sanded. I added a nice clicky microswitch to the trigger, filled some screw holes and painted and weathered it.

The scabbard was made from a cheap airsoft plate carrier which I've used parts from previously to make up pouches and accessories. I left the Molle straps intact on both sides to add to the detail and to strap it to the attachment points on the main armour.

What started off as "I may as well 3D print a Smartgun", turned into "well that's a lot of printing, I could make some of those parts quicker".

I used MG42 scale drawings found in another wooden smartgun thread and a 3D model on thingiverse as the main reference. The main body is layers of MDF glued togther with sections cut out on the bandsaw. Slots were made by chain drilling with a spade bit and chiseling out the inbewteen bits. Some parts were made from aluminium or plastic. More complex parts were 3D printed. The drum magazine is several layers of MDF, glued and then turned on a wood lathe.

First time with all the parts together, took it outside for some photos. The flat black spray paint was not very flat, so after this I have airbrushed Vallejo black which has dulled it down really nice.

That is really amazing. Great craftsmanship and looks awesome.

*(I think you have your ammo counter/drum cover on backwards? Pretty sure the short half should be facing front and longer half with window in back facing user)

That is a sick build right there.

Congrats! It'll be really nice when it's all together.

It's the way the 3D model had it and looks about the same as the screen used photo :). I will stick a little cover in there to cover the screw to finish it.

Some weathering, using MrHobby Metallics in Brass and Stainless Steel. Will tone it down with some washes :)

Don't worry bigisont, yours is one of the builds I'm using for reference :)

I've just printed martinr1000's Smartgun battery from thingiverse. Used some PVC pipe and a spacer to join two plugs together, then glued it all into position. Will mask, paint and weather next.

DOH! That's a much better way to wire the connectors up!
I soldered one plug, glued it in place, ran the wires through the 'battery', soldered the other plug onto the wires and tucked it back into the battery (and glued). Not much room, that way. Your's is a much more elegant solution!

I will echo a few of the other responses by saying, that is some great fabrication work.
Would never know this piece was "cobbled" together.
I think I also see bits of inspiration from other threads(?)
Put those two together and that is what this place is all about.

Fine work.

Thanks for the compliments!

Lots of inspiration from this forum, from the wooden body build, the reused castor mount and 3D files from members here :).
