The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The key on the smartgunner headset is the over the head band design of the beyerdynamic hm 560 microphone. are there any current market options for headset alteratives one can use to mod?

The Shure SM10 is a pretty good alternative. I got one on eBay and then 3d printed a mic end and balance cylinder for it.

Very nice! That shure ins't bad at all. Not super cheap! but pretty cool.

I don't have a specific model or pics unfortunately, but I have also hunted for this type of thing before. The double band style frame over the top still exists in modern headsets, it is just that now they are almost always covered with fabric and padding so you can't see the shape at first glance. Found some I had high hopes for in Marshalls (or Ross? Some discount place with a wide variety of $15 head sets) but never got around to pulling the trigger in order to chop them up.
